I know several people who live in France and it is uncharacteristically hot there. As u/Munchaussen/ says most homes are not air conditioned so triple digits make for a pretty uncomfortable day.
Having said that, it’s certainly not the first time they’ve had a heatwave. I was stationed in Europe in the 80’s and spent several days in Paris one summer. It was easily in the upper 90’s the whole time I was there. So, if there is anything fake going on here it is acting like a heatwave in France is something new and a valid reason to deprive someone from having a cool beer
