It is not illegal for farmers to plant their own seeds. This videos title is misleading click-bait. However, if a farmer purchases patented technologically modified seeds (GMO) and has agreed not to harvest/save/replant those then indeed that would be "illegal" in the sense that they could/would be sued for damages by the seed producer. There is nothing wrong with this.
We can call someone that plants a seed a farmer. We can also call industries that plant miles of crops farmers. So your point is taken. However this was a supplimented title pointing Exactly to Monsanto. Anyone who has been paying attention for the past 40 years is aware of your position. We are highighting the SCOTUS Ruling where protective status was given to Monsanto / Bayer for damages caused by their products / business practice. An Umbrella, given ILLEGALLY BY SCOTUS. Hardly clickbait. Do people a favor. Next time your first comment Risks tanking an informative, life affirming and even up to the point of being life saving topic, give it another thought.
There was no new "life saving" information in the video. It's what we've known for decades. Farmers who buy into the "system" by buying the Round-Up ready seeds have a hard, nearly impossible time getting out of the "system." But it can be done. It's not illegal either. Farmers just need to put more labor into farming. I know farmers who don't do that much to the crops. They don't even irrigate. They plant seeds using no-till. They have a plane come over and spray everything. Then they wait for harvest. There are a lot of farmers in my area that are over 80 years old, but can still do the little bit of labor that's required. I'm over 70, but I could surely drive an air-conditioned tractor around two or three times a year. They even save on harvesting by sharing harvesters between farms. There is one corporate type farm in my area, and it has a big part of it covered in the Amazon Wind Farm.
so... not a farmer I take it? This is a lovely shock topic that hits people that aren't actually familiar with the industry... nor GMO for that matter. Little example: Let's say Monsanto creates a GMO version of corn that is both benign to humans (or within very conservative acceptable tolerances) as well as resistant to a pesticide they also produce. This combo GMO/Pesticide is what they are marketing to farmers. They have created the GMO seed and the use of it is within their IP. If you think there is something criminal about this please go take some seed science classes as well as some general business classes and you'll quickly discover why things are the way they are. This is capitalism and only when its corrupted with extreme liberal regulations do farmers start getting taken advantage of. This is half the case for Monsanto but so much of what they provide with their seed/pesticide combos make it plenty worth it for the farmer as well.
Well, I was born into it and these days am in my twilight living off my homestead. I understand and respect your opinion. Many feel as you do and embrace the science which is fine. I don't mean to offend anyone with my outlook, I tend to get more into the larger overviews of these operations that tend to extend out into the politictal sphere where you find social engineering. So I do appreciate you insights and viewpoints !
Fair enough and respectable... appreciate you, fren! Ya, its all a touchy topic for me. GMO's are not inherently bad, but there is potential and actual harm being done for financial gain because of them. Trying to go "organic" and completely "non-gmo" is an absolutely joke. This is simply "belong to our group of liberal farmers" where organic really means they know when the inspectors are coming and where to not have them look. This is not joking - "organic" is a crock, but some farmers find the gig worth it for the extra they can make with it. And, ya - you didn't offend and likewise, my snap responses can be aggressive at times but I mean no offense either.
Yes there is something wrong with this. The farmer bought the seed. I don't recall that my father signed an agreement. You go to the seller, you buy your seed. WHERE is the contract? I have never seen one.
"Back in the day" before patented technology (GMO) no they didn't have to worry about any of this. I can 100% assure you that any seed bought from any of the seed companies (Pioneer, Stine, Syngenta etc.) will have a paper that gets signed acknowledging that you will not replant their seed. Right or wrong is debatable to some but that is the way it is now.
There are a lot of empty fields in my area where weeds won't even grow. They are brown, even though nearby fields are green with corn that's already tasseling. Then there are other fields that are covered in buttercups and other wildflowers. Those fields were not sprayed with Round-Up.
Years ago, I knew a farmer who had to go into his fields and pull weeds by hand, because Round-Up wouldn't kill them, and he didn't want them to reproduce and take over his whole piece of land.
Yes, the heading is wrong in that it is possible to still find seeds outside the "system" and then save seeds every year for yourself. But many farmers are in a bind because of the costs of farming that need to be recouped by having the right varieties of crops that give bigger yields. Farmers around here are all planting the same kind of corn, all of it at the same stage of growth today. And the farmers didn't spend a penny on irrigation. We went through a drought, but the corn managed to survive until we got rain a few days ago.
One problem for individuals is that so many garden seeds are hybrids. This means that the saved seeds will not be the same as the original plants. With tomatoes, you can get around this by making cuttings from the original plants before they die and propagate them inside. Or you can buy heirloom varieties. I have done both.
Farming without gmo seeds has become nearly impossible because a gmo crop "infects" a non gmo neighbor. I don't understand the process but it has been documented. Pollenization issue I suppose.
Yes, thats the Monsatan system. They created it 100+ years ago. Buy the law, lawyers, judges, politicians and sell the poison. Reap the rewards, the hurt and sell the drugs to chase the carrot on the stick, pharma drugs. Swoop in with a class actin settlement, cease production and the profit margin, is an engineered ecosystem that is massive. Change formula and name. Rinse repeat. Pestacides, Herbacides, pharma, law firms, court districts, political campaigns and of course the scientists.
SCOTUS cannot grant immunity, nor rights. Government, as a whole, cannot insulate anyone, anything, even themselves, from being held accountable for crimes or for violations of the rights of Americans. The deputy can never be greater than the agent.
They just ruled on it, Monsanto / Bayer is immune. SCOTUS ruling. So I agree with you, we have a problem, a big one. Then look at POTUS, he supported it. Glyphosate is fine for human consumption, and if you get breast cancer, have breast cancer or are in remission, your on your own. If you transitioned to the opposite sex because of the endocrine disruption, and now realize you were chewed up in the system and want to go back. Your on your own. This is where we are at now. Not good. We need MAHA and Bobby Kennedy here, has he stood down, was stood on ? IDK, but we need to course correct before its too late.

Way to stand your ground. Especially something as important as the food we eat and the farmers who grow it.

Thank You Very Much Kind Sir for your Valuable insights and expert analysis !

The farmer whose crops gets cross-pollenated should be able to sue the GMO farmer who blew chemicals on his property.
Those are two very very different things.
Yes, and then when that happens, they legally confiscate your land. They own it. Thats the plan, in progress for over 3 decades. Nobody stood up.
They did. The mega corps have simply captured the government. Foxes guarding the hen house.
