The internet hasn't been killable for decades
Yeah, there are too many ISPs and too much competition. The DS will constantly try to use the whole censorship and fraudulent DMCA stuff to take people down but we can just change our ISP or use a VPN. When selling connectivity is the game the people who don't deliver connectivity will lose.
Moves were made 2008-16 to centralize control of key parts as well as all entry points by banning VPNs as they have now done in UK. These recent activities from 2017 to present have re-emphasized a distributed model with robust redundancies and decentralized control of domains, nodes, and infrastructure.
VPNs have not been banned in the UK - I work for a global tier 1 internet provider. We would know if this were the case... not a "trust me bro" situation - this is what the company I work for deals with. Public VPN's (and of course private) have not been banned in the UK... YET - no seriously I think this will either happen or attempt to happen. From a network provider perspective I can tell you that implementing this would be a nightmare.
