Washington, D.C., is hosting the largest fireworks display in U.S. history on the National Mall as part of the country's 250th birthday. The 40-minute spectacle features over 850,000 fireworks, aiming to shatter the previous Guinness World Record set in the Philippines in 2016.The display spans across 10 locations in the city, including multiple barges on the Potomac River and both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

That's an average of 21,250 shells per minute, or 354 shells each second for 40-minutes.

The historic 4th of July record-breaking fireworks display is officially scheduled to begin at approximately 10:30 PM ET. Because the fireworks will immediately follow a presidential address scheduled for 9:45 PM ET, local officials and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser have noted the start time could potentially slide closer to 11:00 PM ET depending on when the speech wraps up.
