I suggested dau and s-i-law drive grandson somewhere he could see the fireworks! And take some pictures. I suggested husband to use some of the minor fireworks we have in the basement.
****Finally I suggested the little guy go on the porch with me to hear the fireworks, where I could explain the noise to him!
ALL of them denied him the opportunity for the rest of his life, to remember the 250th, even with only photos!
I tried! Especially sitting on the front porch with me, where he can recognize the sound of airplanes going over, the birds singing, and even occasionally a train in the distance, or a lawn mower.
Hopefully, what he will remember about this year is that we were liberated and our nation was returned to its founding form. And, his memory will be based on the stories his family tells him and in a future class where our children are taught to take pride in their country.
A side note, I spent several weeks at Aberdeen Proving Ground in a joint training course that was based there. It was during the Reagan Era build up. I was in the Air Force, we were housed in an old barracks that had been vacant for years. We were upstairs and a group of Marines were downstairs. All good people who made good memories for me.
APG was wonderful! Except they did not house me with another female officer to share the kitchen with, which they well could have b/c another female officer moved in on the same day I did. NO they put a foreign Sudan guy in the opposite room who would go into the kitchen in his underwear! And two more Sudanese in the lower apartment!
I still have a bullet hole in the bed of my truck from a past new years celebration.
My daughter, practicing archery, put a hole in a friend's truck, that overwent the straw barrier! It was not even a celebration, just a missed shot!

I am astounded and appalled~!
