IMO -- This is a composite photo joined on the vertical color line between the two subjects. The light on Mitch's face looks as if it's from a window, but it is NOT shown on his wife's face. She is in a darker more softly lit room. If they were together inches apart, her face should be lit up like his.
I read an interesting reflection on this photo from Jesus Enrique Rojas (the Body Language Guy) who mentioned, in passing that someone had claimed this photo dated from 2023. But he said he did a deep dig and couldn't find any such photo from a previous time. (By the way, I liked Rojas a lot. He has a very forensic and skeptical attitude.)
There were other aspects of the photo that were questionable but not conclusive.
But, in his mind, the most noteworthy thing about the photo was that it was portrayed as a "proof of life" evidence. He pointed out that the entire PURPOSE of such a proof of life was to conclusively squelch controversy. But it hasn't. Quite the contrary. So, he surmised that either the people who produced this were completely inept, or they knew it wouldn't matter. (Since I believe in generosity, I welcome both possibilities being true simultaneously.)
I also saw a clickbait thumbnail for another video, presumably showing a photoshop stripping of layers that showed the wife's concealed hand with 7 or 8 fingers! (I was going very late into the early morning and simply had to draw the line and go to bed.)
For me, the single most disturbing element is McConnell's apparent bonhomie grin, which makes me think of the face of the actor Timothy Blake Nelson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Blake_Nelson). When did McConnell ever look THAT way?
The senate needs to send the Sargent of arms to verify if he is alive.
