It is an obvious attempt to prevent children from being able to read about their past.
Languages too. My father's generation learned Latin in public schools! Some learned Greek also.
Now they are taught ebonics to be able to communicate with non-standard language, in which no classic literature is written.
Old English is hard enough to read; I have been able to "read" or extract from handwritten scrawls in Latin, German, French and Spanish.
OH MY is it hard! I will fight through Old English and German writing, and do my best to recognize names and key words in the other languages.
