Based in San Francisco, CA, Turo is a small company with only 200 employees and an annual revenue of $96.0M.
The staff at Turo come from unusually diverse demographic backgrounds. The company is 45.8% female and 39.0% ethnic minorities. Even though it has great demographic diversity, Turo notably lacks in political diversity. It has an unusually high proportion of employees who are members of the Democratic Party, at 90.0%. Despite having coworkers who agree with each other about politics, employees at Turo tend to have relatively short tenures. Staff members usually stay with the company for 2.7 years.
The company was formerly called "RelayRides".
A news article from May 2024 about Turo cars being stolen then driven down to Mexico for use by cartels.
(Unconfirmed twitter post) "Turo’s been associated with renting cars used for drug trafficking and human smuggling. It’s a shady business."
It was apparently easy to rent a Turo car without proper ID checks, unlike regular rental cars.
Turo had plans for an IPO later this year. A lot of hosts (the actual car owners) werent happy with many of the recent changes leading up to the IPO:

Two California progressives have been recalled after crime-ridden city residents had enough.
Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price and Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao were successfully recalled by voters during Tuesday's election.
Nearly 65 percent of voters wished to oust Thao from her role as mayor. An equal number wanted to get Price out of office as well.
Thao was the first mayor to be recalled in Oakland for more than 100 years.
Price is the first DA to be recalled in county history.
The former mayor's critics largely blamed her for Oakland's high crime rate and for missing out on millions from a retail theft grant from the city after she missed the deadline. They also disagreed with her firing a popular police chief.
'We stood with Oakland residents for the recall of Mayor Sheng Thao for her defunding of police and for her gross fiscal mismanagement that has led Oakland into near bankruptcy,' President of the Oakland Police Officers Association Sgty. Huy Nguyen said in a statement.
As for DA Price, when she was elected in 2022, she ran on a progressive platform, vowing not to overcharge criminals, especially black and brown youths.
Critics said she wasn't giving harsh enough sentences, which created an unsafe community.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs is about to be hit with a second batch of sexual assault lawsuits. Tony Buzbee announced the new claims on Sunday night.
Of the 120 alleged victims, 25 were underage at the time of the abuse, the youngest being 9.
'This individual, who was nine years old at the time, was taken to an audition in New York City with Bad Boy Records,' he said at the press conference.
'This individual was sexually abused allegedly by Sean Combs and several other people at the studio in the promise to both his parents and to him himself of getting a record deal.'
'Other boys were there to audition as well,' Buzbee said. 'All of them were trying to land a record deal. All of them were minors.'
'Another minor told allegedly by Sean Combs that he would make him a star, but he needed to visit with him in private about it away from his parents.
'Once they were in private area, allegedly Mr. Combs made the victim perform oral sex upon him.'
Many of the new victims had previously told law enforcement that they had been abused, including some who cooperated with the FBI.
Many have medical records that prove they had been raped or drugged, Buzbee added.
'Drugs were found in their system-- weird drugs, drugs that you probably never heard of,' Buzbee explained.
'One in particular that continues to pop up is a drug called Xylazine, or tranq, which based on our research is known as a horse tranquilizer.'
Police chiefs of America's largest cities have published the first guide about UAPs, which details chilling encounters and how officers can report such incidents.
The 11-page document warned that unidentified flying objects 'pose significant safety risks to law enforcement air support units,' urging teams to be vigilant when in helicopters.
The report also highlights stories from officers who claimed to confront UFOs
Heres the actual handbook:
