Strategic Air Command was a USAF major command (MAJCOM) They handled strategic bombers, tankers and all USAF nuclear forces. Opposite of Tactical Air Command (fighters) and Military Airlift Command (cargo and transport). Big re-org in 1992. Air Combat Command created with all aircraft that deployed weapons. Air Mobility Command handles tankers, cargo and transport. Now US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) is a unified combatant command. They handle all US military strategic nuclear and space forces. All services, not just USAF. US Strategic Command and SAC often get confused. This is as concise as I can reply as I am drinking and watching football. So I may have whiffed a detail. Party on, fren!
