https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae6961 SAM coming in to Fort Carson, CO -- right near the Cheyenne Mtn. complex. Made a beeline there from DC

I've heard a lot of traffic today where I am (about 100 miles from AC and not too far from Dover AFB). It's very unusual.

WTF -- this followed that same strange pattern the AF1 transponder was showing earlier today, and now AF1 looks to be heading back to DC

There are combat helpcopters up over Colorado Springs (BlackHawks) and a transport that looks like it's going there (ILNDR03 - https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae29fe). Cheyenne Mountain?

There are two Chinooks near Portland and 72151 (https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae1fa6) is a Lakota that can be outfitted for Medivac.

Quite a few refuellers and I am sure other planes with no transponders.

Just a lot of activity after being dark all morning - or am I insane?

we used to have a sticky here, but the mods took it down yesterday.

Not sure of any other forums, I only discovered this hanging out here.

I am too, but this is the strangest thing I have seen so far, but still so new I don't know if it's highly unusual.

The PNW jsut got some activity -- there's a refueling tanker acting wonky out of Salt Lake City, a transport left north of Seattle, and there's a Super Stallion helicopter in southern Oregon moving pretty slow, so he must be moving something.

There were lots of blackouts there recently so the tracking boxes might be down?

This, coupled with the big trainings in the south and AF1 jumping all over South Jersey (almost like it's a transponder error or distraction) makes me really wonder what's going on today.

Very. I've been watching it for a while, and they're playing with the transponder a lot. Almost like it's a distraction.

The longer it jumps around there, combined with the trainings all over, and the PNW totally void, really starts my mind wondering if something is up.

Same here, that's really strange. I am very familiar with South Jersey and it's all over the place. Guess it's transponder issues, but maybe heading to McGuire AFB? The altitude is extremely low though... the Pineys are getting a hell of a view!

I took a screenshot of the area to show the four clusters I saw of planes. They're all military craft, and each cluster is fighters. If you go to https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ and click on the U at the top right, it filters to show only military aircraft and clicking on a plane shows you flightpath and plane info. You can move the map anywhere you want in the world.

Not sure how uncommon it is, since I'm new to the plane spotting (unlike others here), but it seems like four HUGE training exercises that makes me wonder what they're getting ready for since I haven't seen anything like this yet.

I admit I am brand new to the whole planefagging thing, but I've not seen this many fighters in the air at once before. The cluster over Pensicola is crazy. Blackhawks involved in that one too. https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ -- click U and zoom in on the areas. Wonder if they're gearing up for something?

There's a handful zipping over the Delmarva too.

Massive training exercises in Pensacola today, it seems. Fighters and Blackhawks everywhere.

I could make an account and do this too.

Who is this guy?

There was one up there yesterday. Did some circling for an hour or so then back down. Might be training.

Getting a chuckle that there are currently 8 JEDI callsigns in the air right now

It's heading back to Abilene it looks like. Whatever it was doing, it was all in Arkansas.

It's a Boeing E-6 Mercury. According to wiki:

Codenamed Looking Glass, it is United States Strategic Command's (USSTRATCOM) Airborne Command Post (ABNCP), designed to take over in case the Global Operations Center (GOC), located at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, is destroyed or incapable of communicating with strategic forces. The term "Looking Glass" is used because the ABNCP "mirrors" the abilities of the US Strategic Command GOC to control nuclear forces.

Looking Glass makes you scratch your head.

Interesting.
