New information sheds more light on the questions about the circumstances under which the fatal train collision occurred in the Evangelismos area of Larissa on what happened at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday night when passenger train 62 collided with commercial train 63503.
According to the latest information from the ongoing investigation, the accident seems to be due to the wrong handling of the Larissa Station Master who, in the "Larissa - Evangelismos" section, directed the passenger train to the downward traffic line, resulting in it being on the same line as the freight train. It is noted that along its entire length the railway line that connects Athens with Thessaloniki is double.
The same information mentions that the fatal, as it turned out, order of the Station Master of Larissa to passenger train 62 was "go through the exit red light until the entrance of Neos Poros (i.e. the next station after that of Larissa)".
