In Israel the Jubilees are important – they are 50 years apart.
For 2000 years the jews wandered the earth waiting for their return to their ancestral land ( as prophesised by Moses in Leviticus) The Romans started their attack in 67 AD and the Jews were cast out of Israel by 70 AD (leader was named Joseph Ben- Gurion
Mark Twain came to Israel in 1867 and described it as a land of desolation (reflects Deuteronomy).
Charles Warren also came to Israel in 1867 to measure the land – particularly the city of Jerusalem (Zechariah)
The Ottoman Turks were in control since 1517.
1867 was actually the 7th Jubilee – but the first of our current discussion.
The Ottoman Turks were in debt because of the Crimean war. So they passed a law allowing their land to be sold (in 1867). Warren foretold that the Jews could now return and resurrect the desolate land. The Jews started to return. Zionism was started by Theodor Herzl.
In 1917(WW1) The British Balfour Declaration came into force favouring the establishment in Palestine of a home for the Jewish people.
(in ancient times Persian king Cyrus issued a similar decree)
Beersheba (7 wells) was first occupied by Abraham. Australian Light Horse troops retook that city. The British forces defeated the Ottoman Turks and became rulers of Palestine. Britain was in charge and in 1947 Turned the issue over to the United Nations. The UN decided to divide the land into two. The Jewish state and the Arab state.
The plan was accepted Sept 3 1947 – exactly 50 years after Herzl prophesied in 1897.
Since 1917 – Britain had turned against Israel, and the British empire started to fail. The USA became the Chief Advocate (but it was the Australian Dr Clive Evatt who introduced the bill – USA was he first to vote – Russia was against Israel)

Israel became a nation on May14 May 1948. Israel was supported by a modern- day Cyrus – President Harry Truman. Leader of the Jews was David Ben- Gurion -same name as the original.
The Arab nations attacked - the goal of the Arabs was initially to block the Partition Resolution and to prevent the establishment of the Jewish state. The Jews, on the other hand, hoped to gain control over the territory allotted to them under the Partition Plan. Israel won this war. I have just given it a small reference.
In 1948 Jerusalem was still under UN control.
In May 1967 Russia convinced Egypt that Israel was about to attack a heavily armed Egyptians and Jordanians (Russian Arms) advanced on Israel. The aim was to destroy Israel.
On June 5th Israel attacked and we had the 6 day war
Israeli soldiers stormed the gates of Jerusalem and also came down from the North and captured the Temple Mount.
Absolute rejoicing in Israel – of course – this was the Jubilee 1967. Israel prospered and many returned from other parts of the world.
However, the United Nations – representing the world – refused to accept Jerusalem and issued many proclamations against Israel. US congress passed a law recognising Jerusalem – but every President signed a waiver every 6 months delaying it. In June 2017 Congress again passed the recognition. This is the next Jubilee.
On December 6 2017 President Donald Trump signed the decree establishing Jerusalem as the capital of Isreal. Donald Trump was recognised as another modern Cyrus (70 years after Truman).
