Holy Father, a Swiss friend of mine wanted to order something from a French company which would only allow deliveries to the EU member countries. He came and asked me whether he could have the goods delivered tour French home, which, given our intimate friendship, was obviously welcome. As he could not provide a French mobile number, he had to redirect the goods to a local grocery. Pity, we then had planned not to get there for the coming weekend and the retention policy is about 5 days. I then both contacted a neighbor and also the grocery to make sure the goods would be picked in time. No QR-code was to be shown: as my neighbor is a local monument who shops at the grocery, everything was simply happily abided. That is the system that works in smaller communities where exceptions are friendly taken care of, whilst in bigger ones, they are tolerated at most. Whenever dealing with legitimate queries from stranger, always make them feel welcome to your village. I praise You for this realisation.

Dalmatius of Pavia (Italian: San Dalmazzo, Dalmazio) (died 254 or 304 AD) is venerated as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. It is possible that Dalmatius was simply a local preacher of northern Italy, but the century in which he lived or the manner in which he died is unknown. He was venerated at what was called Pedona (present-day Borgo San Dalmazzo). His biography was composed in the 7th or 8th centuries, its author perhaps a Lombard monk of the monastery of Pedona who was drawing from oral tradition. His biography states that Dalmatius was born at Forum Germarzorum (present-day San Damiano Macra) and became a churchman and evangelizer in Pedona. In the 10th century, when the area of Pedona was devastated during Muslim raids, Dalmatius’ relics were carried to Quargnento, where an inscription on his tomb read: [H]ic requiescit corpus sancti Dalmatii repositum ab Audace episcopo Astensi. In France, a tradition dating from the 9th century held that he died a martyr. Later legends state that he evangelized many cities of Piedmont, Emilia, and Gaul, and was killed for his faith in 254 or 304 AD. The Roman Martyrology, based on erroneous episcopal lists, considers Dalmatius a bishop of Pavia.

Holy Father, I currently entertain myself watching a show called « Ancient Apocalypse » in the evening. Some would say it’s charlatanism, but then I see there two patterns: the first is actually questioning assumptions from established « experts » who do not give proper reasons not to dig further for clues whenever finding something inhabitual. The second one reminds me of the project SETI (« Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence »). Whether or not we believe in the Little Green Men, this project has allowed many technological leaps forward which makes this red herring an actual opportunity to experiment new practical ideas which always end finding an utility. So, there are at least two kinds of « Conspiracy Theorists »: the ones just sticking to an alternate theory to fit in a group which reflects their frustration, then there are the ones choosing not to embrace any theory and enjoying to dig the fact mine to the hidden truth, whatever it implies. The later kind has my own preference. I praise You for opening my mind to just follow what seems challenging, whether its consequences are tragic or joyous. In the long term, Truth will always prevail. It is not down to us to determine whether our generation or a future one is entitled to reach it, but it is our role to make sure we neither deviate,nor slow down on this path.

Holy Father, The holiday is over and it went better that how well it was expected to be. Plenty of tidying, cooking, gardening, movie watching and meeting nice people made this a success. I was absolutely exhausted when I went to bed yesterday but I did have a wonderful sleep. At the time I am typing this, I am in a train to Zürich Airport where my employer has some nice offices where some colleagues and I will spend the day. I already spent an hour on my former employer’s laptop checking a week worth of emails and new appointments. I know how hectic this week will be, but then, I am only 3 weeks from the next holiday which makes me serene and comfortably aware of what’s next. I praise You for setting me in such a confident state.

Holy Father, I spent a really nice 36 hour with a friend I had not met in 10 years and also never had the opportunity to privately discuss with. I like how he is willing to discuss my political views even if he doesn’t share some of them. Joseph Marchand (17 August 1803 – 30 November 1835) was a French missionary in Vietnam and a member of the Paris Foreign Missions Society. He is now a Catholic saint, celebrated on 30 November. In 1833, he was invited to join the Lê Văn Khôi revolt led by Lê Văn Khôi, son of the late governor of southern Vietnam Lê Văn Duyệt. He vowed to overthrow Emperor Minh Mạng and replace him with My Duong, the son of Minh Mạng's late elder brother Nguyễn Phúc Cảnh, who were both Catholics. Khoi appealed to other Catholics to join in overthrowing Minh Mạng and installing a Catholic emperor. They quickly seized the Citadel of Saigon in an uprising lasting two years. In 1835, he was arrested for supposedly having been associated with the rebellion and later executed in Huế, subsequently becoming a Catholic martyr after having his flesh pulled from his bones by tongs, known as death by a thousand cuts.

Holy Father, I had special reasons to thank You yesterday, on behalf of the many American Frens I made here and with whom we have been holding the line for almost half a decade, now. I believe this is what Thanksgiving is about. I also tend to believe most mails I keep receiving these days are commercial spams from entities which I assimilate to the Temple merchants. I can understand that, for some of them, it really is about to renew the stock to revigorate their finance and eventually purchase that bike for a grandkid in time for the coming Christmas eve, but then, for most, it just is one of many yearly campaigns aimed at keeping a business zeppelin afloat. You blessed me with resilience and I praise You for this. I shall not waste money on stuff I initially did not even need, that would be like gluttony.

Holy Father, these few days of solitude give me the opportunity to apprehend things differently. Working in the garden, for example, which was something tedious I was reluctant to do, quite become pleasant once I found out I needed to wear longer gloves and to focus on what was under the brambles to easily rid of these. It feels so good to sweat after freeing so quickly such a great surface and reclaiming our estate. Now will be the time to chop the wood and let it dry for some time so I can use it to warm the house a year or so from now. These chores just taught me they are not debilitating once we know where to focus and what we would like to achieve. My own self is like this garden: it has to be taken care of and cultivated and You are Where I should focus my prayers in this matter.

Holy Father, I may sound controversial today but You know I don’t mean any harm to anybody. When Pope Benedict XVI was in charge, he was attacked by Jewish religious authorities who demanded the official Catholic Cathechism retires a prayer asking for the conversion of the Jews. We, Christians, all understand how Judaism is what Christianity is without Christ: a religion where we are not explicitely given True Love through the Scriptures. It took Jesus for us to switch from the 10 Commandments to « You shall love your neighbour as yourself ». So, yes, they wait for the Messiah and I just confess He is among us, in our spirits, and joyfully invite them to open their eyes and see him, then read the holy Scriptures and realize how much Love there is in our world who is ruled by Jesus. The bottom-line of this is Prayer really is powerful, otherwise people would not attack us for that one.

Saint Siffredus of Carpentras (French: Siffrein) was a bishop of Carpentras who is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church. Siffredus was a monk in Lérins Abbey before becoming bishop of Carpentras at the beginning of the seventh century. Not much is known of his life and Siffredus does not appear to have participated in any church council. However, during his episcopate, he ordered the construction of many churches in Carpentras and in Venasque. Religious and popular tradition holds that Siffredus led an austere life and was zealous in his pastoral duties, caring for the poor and exorcising demons.

Holy Father, I had the opportunity to watch the recent French movie based on Alexandre Dumas’ « The Count of Monte Cristo ». I was quite appalled by all the scenaristic freedoms which were taken from the original material. The virtuous sister of one of the villains who was sold to a brothel by her brother to have her disappeared, the same brother burying alive the son he had with his lover… none of which actually came from Alexandre Dumas. Why did they have to change it so sensationally? and why so many shortcuts: Edmond Dantes is arrested. Text reads: « 4 years later », Then he meets the Abbott in jail.Then another text reads: « 10 years later », Then « 1 year later », then « 5 years later ». All this for a tapageous movie still taking 3 hours to watch and where the only cast member worth praises is the one decorating the interior sets. I will need to watch again the other movie with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce which is much more faithful to the original book. I am afraid people have come out of their places and suddenly believe themselves to be above everyone one worth mentioning in history. Maybe even You. I just pray they open their eyes and I remain able to ignore them until then.

Conrad was a member of the powerful Welf family, son of Count Heinrich of Altdorf. After an education at the cathedral school in Constance, he became provost of Constance Cathedral and in 934 was made Bishop of Constance. It is counted as one of his achievements that he avoided becoming enmeshed in the politics of the day and reserved his energies for his episcopal duties. He was nevertheless close to Emperor Otto I, whom he accompanied to Italy in 962. Conrad made three pilgrimages to Jerusalem as well as a number to Rome. He founded a number of churches on the episcopal estates and the hospital at Kreuzlingen, named after a portion of the True Cross which Conrad brought back from Jerusalem and presented to it.

Holy Father, today is a very special day as my beloved cats just reached the age of 14 years old. Though not worth a mention in the Guinness Book, it’s still quite something especially when I consider one recently had to have a toe and a facial melanome removed whilst the other needs daily medication for a bad allergy which hit her 8 years ago. These cats are my surrogate children as we never conceived our owns and they taught me so much about Love I praise You everyday I interact with them. It’s a great honor You gave me to be these cats’ Daddy and I cherish every single instant I spend with them.
