Holy Father, we don’t just begin a new year: today begins the 2025 Jubilee. MMXXV indeed is what we call in French « Année Sainte ». In ancient traditions, it happened every 25 or 50 years and it was the opportunity to clean slates by forgiving debts, freeing slaves… That is where we are now in our own way, so instead of the usual new year resolutions, maybe we should ask ourselves whose debt we would personally forgive? who would we personally free? Holy Father, today ends a year of multiple hopes and if there is no absolute disappointment, there still are matters to be dealt with as well as some veils to be lifted. Are the good guys we prayed for really good for us, rather than for themselves? In good, do we mean, entertaining, competent or just well-spirited? I believe we need to amicably but firmly communicate them our feedback on whatever question their actions, or lack thereof, inspire us. Don’t judge people on words, unless these are unkept promises, and may they be inspired to properly achieve the work You deem necessary for all of Mankind.

Holy Father, despite the freezing weather, it seems like my body is back to a decent holiday cruise style. I even set an alarm not tooversleep today. We indeed have plenty to prepare as our new year’s guest actually are bringing guests of their own. we have enough sits for everyone and there surely will be plenty to eat and drink as these are not hungry youngsters but rather older people whom at least won’t expect us to throw a dance party. Saint Anysia of Thessalonica (Greek: Άγία Άνυσία) (d. c. 304) was a Christian virgin and martyr of the 4th century. She was born of pious and affluent parents who "raised her in Christian piety". They died when Anysia was young, leaving her their wealth, which she distributed to the poor, choosing to live "a strict life of fasting, vigil, and prayer". So, in 1999, whilst working as an expat in the beautiful, but depressingly rainy German town named Düsseldorf, I was contacted by a Swiss headhunter regarding a System Administrator's job at a huge Swiss company.
The problem then, was the need for computer-related specialists had exploded due to the then Dotcom Boom. I hold a Master in Business Informatics which I had to produce. The Swiss administration had to verify there was no unemployed Swiss specialist who would then had the priority to the position I was offered.
I always had a really neat opinion about Switzerland. Being born in neighboring France, where just wearing a French flag is seen as being extreme right, I will always love how Swiss people are proud of their own flag. Of course, I did not always feel welcome wherever I went, that's the price of being a come-from-away with a family name sounding like refugees from the recent Yugoslavian war. But I followed the rule and always found my pleasure whenever I could, and eventually gladly shared it with locals.
In 2016, after 5 years of application, I obtained my most prized "diploma": the Red Pass. I once heard some younger colleague telling me how I really was not a Swiss. I just answered him I am just Swiss enough to willingly take a gun and shoot at French soldiers, should they decide to invade my home. Even the wokest youngsters cannot argue with this.
In 2024, it looks like the Swiss educational system adapted its cursus and there now are enough locals being able to occupy the positions such as mine. Having these young students learning beside us is really nice and gratifying.
So, now, when I hear about how Musk's stance about immigration is opposed to America first, I just pray it's a contingency measure and the American system is willing to improve itself until the need for foreign help is down. I also want people to understand that sometimes, people immigrate because they LOVE WHO you are and HOW GREAT your country is.
Let us not be too hasty with the strategy currently being discussed.

Holy Father, I just dreamed what I am about to describe: people complain about the present time, unpleasant experiences and what they describe as « bad luck ». If, like You, we could freeze time and observe of things evolve, then we would observe how they always went up, either technologically like the last decades, or religiously, like during the Middle Age, when the Western World mostly had one way to praise You. These were simpler times, the values were real: even if some greed led to the crusades, the people who fought them did this for a noble reason: protect the tomb of Jesus Christ from being desecrated by unbelievers. So, we see, as a Family, as Your Children, we only thrive and elevate ourselves over the years, we should just consider contingencies for what they are: momentarily issues. In the end we win because You win.

Holy Father, for the fourth day today, I spent more than half of it sleeping. I am not in pain and still have nothing better to do. I have a moderate appetite, though, but I enjoy what I manage to swallow, like we will enjoy bits of the currently roasting duck which I flavored with melted honey, lemon juice and garlic. I also still take pleasure jamming with my electronic instruments on a daily basis.So should I feel helpless? I don’t think so: You make it feel like the holiday I never could have in years. Holy Father, Your ways are mysterious. I went to bed soon yesterday so I could take the road early today to visit my Mum. In the middle of the night, I was woken up by a bad nausea: was it the monkfish liver I sautéed with butter? There were many episodes and ultimately I left the bed groggy enough to phone Mum about coming another day. Irmina of Oeren (also called Ermina and Hirmina; died 720) was a saint, founder and abbess of a convent in Oeren, near Trier (Trèves), and co-founder of a convent in Echternach (now eastern Luxembourg). When she was fifteen years old, she was engaged to marry a man named Count Hermann, but just before they were to marry, he was killed in a murder-suicide by one of his servants, who "admired Irmina and could not bear that his master should have her". Irmina then married Hugobert, a magnate from the middle Moselle region, who served as seneschal and was a count of the palace at the Merovingian court during the reigns of Theuderic III and Childebert III. They had several daughters. After the death of Hugobert, around 697, she built her a monastery at Oeren in Trier, which was eventually named after her, and where she succeeded as abbess her sister, Saint Modesta. Irmina donated lands to help co-found, with Saint Willibrord of Northumberland, the convent in Echternacht in 697 or 698. Historian Jamie Kreiner called the founding of the Echternacht convent "a cooperative venture" between Willibrord and Irmina's family, who later promised to protect the convent and its holdings after Willibrord promised fidelity to them in 706. Watkins reported that Irmina was "generous to both Celtic and Saxon missionary monks". Irmina died in 720 at the monastery at Weissenburg, which was also founded by her father.

Holy Father, I once again woke up before the alarm I set, which means I kinda organize my sleep better than in the previous weeks. I am feeling relieved and I am looking forward those numerous little things I always postponed because of procrastination. It’s payback time: let’s do it. NOW. Behnam and Sarah were born in the 4th century, and were the children of Sennacherib, King of Assyria, who ruled under the Shahanshah Shapur II of Iran. Whilst hunting with forty slaves, Behnam was separated from his entourage, and was forced to spend the night in the wilderness. He received a dream in which an angel instructed him to seek Saint Matthew the Hermit on Mount Alfaf, as he could heal Behnam's sister Sarah, who was afflicted with leprosy. Behnam met with his entourage the next day, and they searched and discovered the hermit in a cave, where he explained Christianity to the prince. Behnam demanded proof, and Matthew told him to bring Sarah to him to be healed of her leprosy. Behnam and his entourage returned to the city and told his mother of his dream and the saint. His mother allowed Behnam and Sarah to return to the saint in secret, and he healed Sarah of her leprosy, after which Behnam, Sarah, and the forty slaves were baptised. Matthew used water from a spring that appeared after he hit the ground with his staff. The king learned of his children's conversion and threatened to punish them if they did not abandon Christianity. Stalwart in their faith, Behnam, Sarah, and the forty slaves, fled to Mount Alfaf, but were slain by soldiers sent by the king. Sennacherib was afflicted by madness after the death of the martyrs. An angel appeared before Behnam's mother and told her the king would only be cured of his madness if he converted to Christianity and prayed at the site of the martyrs' death. Behnam's mother and Sennacherib followed the angel's instructions, and the king was cured. They were then baptised by Saint Matthew at Assur. At the request of Saint Matthew, Sennacherib constructed a monastery atop Mount Alfaf, that would later become known as the Monastery of Saint Matthew. The king also constructed a monument on the site of the martyrs' death called gubba ("pit" in Syriac). A wealthy pilgrim called Isaac later visited the site of the martyrs' death in the hope it would exorcise the devil from his servant, and constructed a monastery named as Beth Gubbe near Behnam's tomb upon receiving instructions to do so from the saint in a dream. This became known as the Monastery of Saints Behnam and Sarah.

Holy Father, we safely landed in our remote house for the end of the year and we spent the evening near the lit chimney, listening to some pleasant diversions. Fatigue hit us relatively soon and I had a sound night sleep and even woke up half an hour before the alarm went. I decided to set the clock everyday so I can productively enjoy my freetime: music, garden, cooking and maybe also take another look to the games I developed so they can be published again. Few social events are planned: Christmas will be spent at my Mum’s, whilst my step-Mum will come for the New Year’s eve. I may also meet the neighbours once or twice for a drink. I praise You for the serenity I feel.

Eimhin was the abbot and bishop of Ros-mic-Truin (Ireland), probably in the sixth century. Eimhin came from Munster, and was the son of Eoghan, and brother of three other saints, Corbmac, Culain, and Diarmuid. Of the early part of his religious life little is known. The Abbey of Ros-mic-Truin was founded by St. Abban of Magheranoidhe, who entrusted it to Eimhin, and from the number of religious and students belonging to the south of Ireland who dwelt there the place came to be called "Ros-glas of the Munstermen". St Eimhin is said by some to have been the author of the life of St Patrick, called the Vita Tripartita originally published by the Franciscan John Colgan. Eimhin was famous for many and great miracles. The date of Eimhin's death has not been recorded; however, competent authorities assign it to the earlier half of the sixth century. Eimhin secured special status for the Monasterevin area placing it outside the common law, making it a sanctuary. After Eimhin's death, it is said, his consecrated bell was held in great veneration, and was used as a swearing relic down to the fourteenth century, oaths and promises made upon it being deemed inviolable.

Holy Father, I had a though day yesterday, not that I ever felt helpless, but somehow, with many colleagues away, some unusual task was left to me. By chance, as You always do, You sent me someone to help. It provided me with a nice opportunity to vindicate myself as a competent and friendly colleague with whom we could solve the unexpected issue. This was quite a highlight for me to end this year and also the joy to feel so much gratitude to a generous fellow with whom I shall keep in touch for years to come. I praise You for this state of mind which went from « potential inadequacy » to « I’ll obviously do it ».

Holy Father, Clemenceau, a former French politician used to say « He, who’s not an anarchist in his twenties, is an idiot. He, who still is one in his forties, also is. ». I was quite the rebellious teen and maybe I took it quite late. It’s only when I found my former employer that I found some quietude. Sometime people rebel not for the thrill it gives them, but because they sense the world they live in doesn’t fit Your obvious presence. Godlessness is a source of anger. I never met a quiet anarchist, but I met religious people whose peaceful state of mind I envied. I praise You for this epiphany: Praying while craving for peace is like sipping drop after drop from a stalagtite when one is thirsty. It only takes patience to achieve serenity.

He was a disciple of Columbanus at Luxeuil who followed his master when he was banished from Burgundy in 610, but then retired as a hermit in the Doubs valley. Veneration of Ursicinus is attested since the 7th century. In Grandval, a church was dedicated to Ursicinus in 675. By the 11th century, he was part of the local canon of saints of the Besançon diocese. His feast day is on 20 December. Ursicinus' supposed sarcophagus is preserved in St-Ursanne in what is now the canton of Jura in Switzerland.

Holy Father, these days, I am watching a show named « Ancient Apocalypse ». Its anchor suggests that civilisation was rebooted about 12 thousands years ago after the frozen water from the last ice age actually melted and left a few of us reinventing our organisation, with the possible help of a few more advanced people from a extinct former glorious civilisation, who gave us the knowledge needed to build from stone and to grow needed food. What if these were times when humans far outnumbered today’s humanity? What if they grew woke enough to displease You so that You decided to give them a shake in order to start again from a more virtuous stand? Many archeologists obviously contest these ideas, but then, many climatologists will crucify whoever stands against their lucrative stance. I believe there is more Truth in the Ancient Testament than there is in nowadays corporate news. There was a flood, there were centuries of enslavement, there was some prosperous Garden of Eden and there surely is a Messiah. Humans transcribed these and may just have overloooked the order in which all of this happened. Your Book nonetheless reminds us of what can happen to us if we lower our expectations and thus get enslaved by bad masters or even by the worst we ourselves can be. Let us not be enslaved (anymore) and also make sure we don’t give You any reason for another reboot.

Pope Anastasius I was the bishop of Rome from 27 November 399 to his death on 19 December 401. Anastasius was born in Rome, and was the son of Maximus. He succeeded Siricius as pope and condemned the writings of the Alexandrian theologian Origen shortly after their translation into Latin. He fought against these writings throughout his papacy, and in 400 he called a council to discuss them. The council agreed that Origen was not faithful to the Church. « If Origen has put forth any other writings, you are to know that they and their author are alike condemned by me. The Lord have you in safe keeping, my lord and brother deservedly held in honour. » — letter to Simplicianus During his reign, he also encouraged Christians in North Africa to fight Donatism. He instructed priests to stand and bow their head as they read from the gospels. Among his friends were Augustine, Jerome, and Paulinus. Jerome speaks of him as a man of great holiness who was rich in his poverty. He died in Rome and was eventually buried in the Catacomb of Pontian together with his immediate successor, Innocent I. Jerome also referred to Anastasius as Innocent's father, although scholars have argued this was displaying a hierarchical relationship rather than a biological one.

Today we celebrate Gatianus of Tours.
According to Christian historians, during the consulship of the Emperor Decius and Vettius Gratus (250 AD), Pope Fabian sent out seven bishops from Rome to Gaul to preach the Gospel: Gatianus to Tours, Trophimus to Arles, Paul to Narbonne, Saturnin to Toulouse, Denis to Paris, Austromoine to Clermont, and Martial to Limoges. A community of Christians had already existed for many years in Lyon, where Irenaeus had been bishop. As with other founders of the seven Catholic churches of Gaul, especially Martial, Gatianus became confounded in later Christian mythology with the "seventy-two disciples of Christ", alleged to have been sent into Gaul during the first century, by Peter himself. Other details of his biography, while not as easily disprovable, are also largely legendary. Gregory of Tours, writing in the 6th century, is a more dependable source for the few biographical details concerning his predecessor. According to the Catholic historian Louis Duchesne (Christian Worship: Its Origin and Evolution), the traditions preserved at Tours furnished Gregory with only the name of Gatianus and perhaps the 50-year extent of his episcopacy; it was by comparison with a brief early biography of Saturninus of Toulouse (Passio S. Saturnini) that Gregory arrived at the date 250 for the beginning of Gatianus' ministry at Tours (History of the Franks, 1.30). There were few Christians in Tours at that time, and in one of the troubled years of his episcopate he is said for a time to have lain concealed in a cave on the banks of the Loire, at a spot where later rose the great Abbey of Marmoutier, and Gregory states that Gratianus would go into the city only when opportunities of preaching presented themselves. He devoted half a century to evangelization, amid innumerable difficulties, and at his death the diocese of Tours was securely established. In a part of the empire where Mithraism was a dominating force among the legions, Léon Jaud reports that Gatianus likewise retreated into a grotto and there celebrated a mystical banquet (célébrait les saints mystères), but that of Christianity. Gatianus was often portrayed officiating at a ceremony in a cavern-like setting. Two grottos cut into the limestone hill above the river Loire, across from Tours at the largely demolished Marmoutier Abbey, are designated the first sites where Gatianus celebrated the liturgy. Gatianus established a hospice for the poor outside the walls of Tours. There he lay, overcome with weariness, after five decades of fasting, penances and toil. There, Jaud describes Jesus appearing to Gatianus, saying, "Fear not! Thy crown is readied and the Saints await thy arrival in Heaven." After Gatianus' death, during renewed persecution of Christians, the see of Tours remained unoccupied for 36 years. The Christians were dispersed and any direct connection with the historical Gatianus was irretrievably broken. Gregory records[6] the second bishop as Lidorius, traditionally credited with building the predecessor of the present cathedral in Tours, and states that he was bishop for 33 years until about the time Saint Martin arrived in Tours in 371 AD. However, Martin found few Christians in this city; local lore nevertheless kept the legend of Gatianus alive. Martin found Gatianus' burial site, and always venerated his predecessor. With the rise in importance of Paris, Gatianus came to be seen more and more as a disciple of Saint Denis, and is so described at many modern Catholic websites. Tours became a major pilgrimage site, focused on the tomb of Saint Martin of Tours. The cathedral, originally consecrated to Saint Maurice, was reconsecrated to Saint Gatianus at its 13th century rebuilding. His relics were destroyed in 1793, during the French Revolution.

Ōuchi Yoshitaka (大内 義隆, December 18, 1507 – September 30, 1551) was the daimyō of Suō Province and the head of the Ōuchi clan, succeeding Ōuchi Yoshioki. In 1522, he fought the Amago clan along with his father, Yoshioki, to win the control of Aki Province. Upon Yoshioki's death in 1528, Yoshitaka became the head of Ōuchi clan. In the 1530s, he led a military actions in the northern Kyūshū, defeating Shōni clan to win control of the area. With his back then secure, in 1540 he again started combating the Amago clan and by 1541, managed to completely control the Aki province.

Holy Father, this week I choose not to move to my company’s headquarter in Eastern Switzerland: many colleagues are on holiday, the office is moving to a new building and the few colleagues I may meet there might be really busy packing their things. This gives me some solace, also given that tomorrow night I am implementing a big Production update until late in the evening, so I don’t need to get up so soon the day before. I like how I currently manage to remain busy yet still efficiently learning about that double aspect of my work. There are still many administrative aspects that I don’t quite master yet but the colleagues are nice enough to tolerate these omissions of mine as long as I humbly notify them about these. I pray this softly but swiftly sorts itself out and I finally get in this new job most of the appreciation I had in the previous one.
