Holy Father, I once again woke up to the root of the Altstadt covered with a shallow veil of snow. There’s nothing wrong regarding this town’s altitude and its proximity to the Alps. Watching the snow from within a warm flat is a beautiful and relaxing thing. I praise You for our beautiful world and I pray I righteously keep doing my part in keeping it the beauty it is.

Today we celebrate Acepsimas of Hnaita.
Acepsimas was the bishop of Hnaita, residing at Paka in western Persia. He and several companions, including the priest Joseph of Bet-Katoba, who was then 70 years old, and the deacon Aitillaha of Bet-Nuhadra, who was then 66 years old, were arrested by Shapur II for refusing to worship according to the Zoroastrian faith. Acepsimas was taken in chains to Arbela (modern Erbil) before the governor. This judge admired how he could deny the divinity of the sun, which all the East adored. The martyr answered him, expressing his astonishment how men could prefer a creature to the Creator. By the orders of the governor he was laid on the ground with his feet bound, and in that posture barbarously scourged, till his whole body was covered with blood. He was then thrown into prison. Acepsimas endured three years of prison before he was racked and whipped to death on October 10, 376. Joseph was taken to Hdajab where he was tortured until he was stoned to death by apostate Christians at Tabaha on the Friday after Pentecost, 377. Aithalla was stoned to death at Destegerd on November 3, 377. They were the last martyrs of the Christian persecution of Shapur II. The book of their acts, which has survived, is said to be genuine.

Abdecalas, also known as Abdelas, was a Persian priest and martyr, who together with another priest called Ananias, and about a hundred other Christians, was killed under the Persian ruler Shapur II on Good Friday, 345. One of these others was also named Abdecalas. Simeon, bishop of Seleucia, had been arrested by order of Sapor, king of Persia. He refused to adore the sun and was thrown in a narrow prison and remained there for a long time together with other 100 Christians, such as bishops, priests and clerks. The following day, which was a Good Friday, all his companions were strangled in his presence and he was beheaded. Abdecalas and Ananias, his priests, were martyred with him. They were the persons of distinguished merits. The historian Sozomen estimates the number of Christians martyred during the forty-year reign of Shapur as close to 16,000.

Holy Father, for some, the concept of guardian angel is idiotic. I happen to know mine: The Lady who was around me when I was a toddler, with my father locked in a faraway gulag and Mum working to feed all of us. My great aunt was a great person who also nursed Mum when she was a baby. I praise You for how happy she made me and my siblings whilst the odds where against us and I pray she found a wonderful place near You.

Ursmar of Lobbes(died 713) was a missionary bishop in the Meuse and Ardennes region in present-day Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg and France. He was also the first abbot of Lobbes Abbey. As many missionaries in the 7th and 8th century, he may have been of Irish origin. He was appointed abbot of Lobbes in 691 by the Frankish king Pippin II. He is also credited with the foundation of Aulne Abbey and Wallers Abbey. Saint Ursmar is a Catholic saint, whose feast day is April 19. His sarcophagus is in the crypt of the parish church in Lobbes (as well as the sarcophagus of his successor, Saint Ermin. A Life was written by Heriger of Lobbes.

Holy Father, how interesting is it that, whilst discussin basic organisation in our daily meeting with the colleagues, I hit a wall of incomprehension and indifference when telling about how strange it was yesterday at 16:01 to have to ask about who would watch the group mailbox and phone as it is mandatory for us until 17:00. I did not want us to have an answer by then, but I wanted the question to be obvious at this time in the morning so, should someone devote some time for this monitoring, he would better know soon enough to eventually adjust his afternoon schedule. I pray I planted a little seed regarding this kind of vigilance we ethically owe our employer.

Perfecto was challenged by two Muslim men to say who was the greater prophet: Jesus or Mohammed. At first he refrained from responding, so as not to provoke them; but they insisted that he give them an answer, promising to protect him from reprisals. He then told them in Arabic that Muhammed was a false prophet and that he was an immoral man for supposedly seducing his adopted son's wife. The Muslims kept their promise and let him go, but several days later some of them changed their mind and had him arrested. They had friends seize Perfecto (so as to not be forsworn) and tried. Perfecto was found guilty of blasphemy by the Islamic court and was executed. The legend says that Perfecto's final words were to bless Christ and condemn Muhammad and his Qur'an. He was beheaded on 18 April 850.

Holy Father, today I pray as many Frens as possible are inspired to join u/Tweety51A in prayers for her daughter Christina who is about to serve a 5-6 months jail term for a car accident she had whilst under heavy stress.This young mother of 2, a 5yo and an 8yo, will be separated from her family during this time and may face financially hard times after she’s gone out. Let us pray You bless her and her loving family with all the serenity and Faith they need to just pass through this ordeal and be in harmony together ever after. Stephen Harding served as abbot of Cîteaux for twenty-three years. While no single person is considered the founder of the Cistercian Order, the shape of Cistercian thought and its rapid growth in the 12th century were certainly due in some part to Harding's leadership. Insisting on simplicity in all aspects of monastic life, Stephen encouraged the severity of Cistercian architecture and the simple beauty of the Order's liturgy and music. He was an accomplished scribe; one of his greatest achievements is considered to be the Harding Bible. In 1133, he resigned as abbot because of poor eyesight. He died on 28 March 1134.

Holy Father, my professional situation is extremely needy of my flexibility. The network of my previous employer is being moved, one application at a time, to my current employer’s facilities. Engratia was a native of Braga who had been promised in marriage to a nobleman of Roussillon. He sent as her escort to Gaul her uncle Lupercius (sometimes identified with the Luperculus who was a bishop of Eauze) and a suite of sixteen noblemen and a servant named Julie or Julia. Upon reaching Zaragoza, they learned of the persecution of Christians there by the governor Dacian, who reigned in the time of the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. She attempted to dissuade him from his persecution, but was whipped and imprisoned when it was discovered that she was a Christian. She died of her wounds. Her companions were decapitated. Although her martyrdom is traditionally placed around 303 during the Diocletianic Persecution, more recently it is considered probable that she died during the persecution of Valerian (254-260).

Holy Father, I had quite a short night and, during my morning coffee, I was checking the news, mails and other eventually missed information. I thought to myself, « hmmm, slow morning with litte happening. » Then You inspired me to MAKE things happen. Get better at something, shape these improved skills like a bonsai so it gives its best and give me the satisfaction nothing I cannot control will give me. Hunna (d. 679), is a saint venerated in the Catholic Church. Born in Alsace in eastern France, she is the patroness of laundresses; her feast day is April 15. She was canonized by Pope Leo X in 1520. Not much is known about her, but she was the daughter of a duke and born into "a privileged life". She married Huno of Hunnaweyer, a nobleman and aristocrat. They had one son. Her family was influenced by the former bishop and hermit Saint Deodatus of Nevers, who inspired her to serve her poor neighbors. Holy Father, I have so much to praise You about today. First, having my wife directly asking me to beg here for prayers for her sister is a sign how powerful this lovely community is. Then there’s the answers I had from God-fearing red-blooded Frens. Then there was Your mysterious inspiration: « It shall take justice and forgiveness. ». Why forgive? Myriam was pregnant with Sylvain's 3rd kid when they finally married. Since then it has been a slippery slope: he was professionally invited alone to some dinners where strippers and alcohol were provided. She also met some of his female colleagues who were quite vocal regarding their abilities to "get a guy for the night" whilst winking at him.
Then she got cancer which took time to heal, then she got myocarditis, because yes, she's vaxxed. During this time, Sylvain was communicating with a mysterious she who he swears was just a "platonic non-affair".
He reproached Myriam to become disgusting because of what chimio did to her body and skin. Sometimes he goes to the fitness club... outside the opening hours.
Whilst checking Sylvain's company account, she found out he subscribed to some kind of Meetic site... Just to talk with other people, he says.
Tomorrow, they're making a fiesta as he turns 50. I don't go as I broke all contact with them in 2009. My nephew and nieces only know what my wife tell them about me.
I told my wife she could not decently attend the fiesta tomorrow: this man is destroying her sister and she should not caution this dumpster fire in the making. Now, she's free to go and be with Myriam, but it would be hypocrite and counter-productive to even be polite with him: his parents should be there, they may be interested to hear some real facts about their boy...

Holy Father, I praise You for reminding me of Ralf, who contacted me 3 months ago to meet and get some moral help from me. Our schedules were quite incompatible and we never got to actually meet and I believe he still was uneasy with getting back to real people. Last time we chatted, he told me his wife was ill and went silent. Today I shall actively contact him, probably by phone as we currently are several hundreds miles apart, and give him all the warm solace he needs. Then we shall go on and make it a scheduled habit to at least talk or eventually meet. I pray those of us who can spontanously check among their friends in need and give them the hand they wouldn’t dare asking for.

Holy Father, I recently wrote here about my « lucky chestnut ». It sounds like I lost it. Not that I am unlucky, but it simply might have fallen from my pocket as I took my keys out. I wouldn’t say that is a bad thing. Now, my fingers don’t feel it anymore where it belonged but I still think of it and it still is sufficient to remain conscient of my actual luck. Somehow, getting rid of this symbol made me free from it but still attached to its actual meaning. I praise You for giving me this fullfilling feeling and I pray people can always find in themselves the happiness they crave.
