I love the reader view option. Sometimes you go to a website and it is just overloaded with ads. click on reader view and all you see is the article. Awesome.

It's built on Chromium but it is certainly not google free. It's nowhere near as bad as actual Chrome, but Firefox is better from a privacy perspective.

Any programmer can also "fork" the project if the management of the project goes awry. So you can basically download the source code, remove any bad parts, and start your own collaboration with other programmers. That's why Chromium has stayed clean, while Chrome itself is Google-fied and a privacy nightmare.
I use vivaldi. I like it a lot. You can try the Brave browser. it used Chrome without google
