Seems like a more divided form of the three part soul from Aristotle, plant soul basically being the ability to live (metabolism, more or less), animal soul (moving, sensing, instinct, appetite), and the rational soul (the part that makes humans different than other animals - Sentience/Consciousness and Sapience - Abstract Reasoning)
