It's pretty darn clear we got ops going on in the Vatican and Pakistan. The blackouts are cover. It's also pretty clear @Jack has some serious karma coming to himself and his little business from POTUS. I think it likely that Twitter will be raided but not until the net is largely taken down to prevent a huge barrage of pre-canned tweets from whining about gestapo tactics.
So I think it's likely the net will be taken down in a few days and for a few days to cover some serious ops. That's when and why the EMS will be brought into service. When the net comes back up, twit and goog and fb and the rest their kind will have been cleansed of their censorship and free speech will be back.
So you telling me at all AWS and Azure cloud hosted business, including some major healthcare organizations are going to go dark for a number of days? That would not be good.
INTERNET and INTRANET are not the same thing. INTERNET is all things www. INTRANET is all things within the enterprise architecture. Think of it as an INTERNET all by itself within an organization. Hospitals within an INTRANET can still communicate and function normally ... on their hospital stuff. You just can't play on line poker between surgeries.
Medical systems have infrastructure that runs on INTRANETS. They have to, legally. HIPPA requires it.
A Blackout of the INTERNET will have little affect on the INTRANETs for any organization that had one ... and they almost all do. Not just hospitals.
You are right that Internet and Intranet are not the same thing. However you are wrong that a blackout of the Internet will have little affect on Intranets. The answer depends fully on where each company's Intranet is hosted. The term describes a logical area, not a physical one. Many companies host all their servers somewhere other than their physical location, and many don't have dedicated lines between the two locations. Thus they are reliant on the internet to get data back and forth. This setup can easily be made to be HIPAA (not "HIPPA") compliant too.

Most people don't realize this but servers are NOT required if you are utilizing Hadoop. You just need a 'kerneler' and routers. That's it. The machines in your network act as autonomous storage. Most INTRANETS now a days use this tech. It's safer and exponentially more secure.
I will 100% concede that it is possible some dinosaur companies still piggyback the www. They won't after this.
What you are referring to is a serverless approach. This is actually a misnomer, as server hardware of some type are ALWAYS required. What this approach does is allow you to not have your systems running on a specific named server that you've configured. You can run them on Amazon's AWS cloud and Amazon dynamically moves it around its various servers on demand based on the load and system needs at that given time.
Also Hadoop is a tool for big data, not Intranets. You might log into your Intranet to access Hadoop-based data, but the software running the Intranet itself is not Hadoop.
