I spent 6 years in west TX (Jr. high/high school). EVERY single person learns to shoot. Every single person learns to hunt and kill. Every single person plays all sports, including (especially) football. You learn how to avoid rattlers, centipedes that will cause a limb to die, landscape that wants to kill you. Everyone is super competitive, but also super loyal. There is no one soft in rural TX above the age of 5, and rural TX is a very, very big place.
