They (media) have been using something called Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) to influence the masses for decades. Ten years ago you could go to youtube and find HUNDREDS of videos breaking down and explaining media/news clips sentence by sentence and how it was affecting the opinion of the masses. Today all you can find regarding NLP is self help videos.
As a side note: Roughly 30 years ago I experienced a Professional Sales Training seminar which featured NLP. The information has greatly contributed to my increased sales ever since.
