My guess it came from all those military agents speaking of "Cues" for years if not decades
"Are the cues ready" "What about those cues" "Drop the Q" "Where's the Q ?"
What are your theories ?

Q clearance. The Department of Energy has such, and is where many believe it comes from.
Most think this. Equivalent to TS clearance issued by DoD. Which makes Q one of the 3 civilians perhaps
If you reread Q posts you will see that Q always uses the Q to signify Question... for example “ask the Q. “
Although Q can mean so many things like Q clearance etc... for me I like to think it simply stands for Question.... as in Question Everything...
But truth is... we don’t know and really it’s not important... it was never about the messenger... it was always about the message....
WWG1WGA
Well, it'd be fascinating to know who he is and see through his eyes -- or their eyes, since it's implied to be a group more than 5 but less than 10.
I think that if this plan goes through, however, we should not have everyone involved step forward as it keeps Q alive for the future if we ever lose our Republic again.
I guess this might be where James Bond's Q came from maybe?
My guess is this...

JFK's grave right?
Yea!
Hint....Q= 17 letter of alphabet
so ????
Look more into #17. I will take the horse to water but you must drink!
Q clearance is a top secret clearance.
Simple, Q first started posting on the chan boards as "Q clearance patriot" then Q became his nickname as its shorter than typing that each time
Nov 2 2017 12:44:30 (EST) What is Q Clearance? What hint does that explicitly refer to? DOE? Who would have the goods on U1? Does stating 'Q' refer that person works in DOE? No. Does it refer that someone dropping such information has the highest level of security within all departments? Why is this relevant?
it's Q-clearance. (a real thing)
My guess is it’s referencing the Q Group from the NSA. Sorry that the video is CNN but it’s mentioned here.

From Bond Movies.... Q Quartermaster ...supplier of all necessary :)
There's a character in Star Trek called Q who is omnipotent, speaks and acts in riddles and often puts the Captain through tests which teach him a lesson.
