Lots of spiritually powered oils and ointments were used to anoint people right? Both in the Bible AND culture.

Well that's dabbling in alchemy/shamanism. Ethnobotany.

Maybe the Manna from Heaven was a metaphor for psychedelic mushrooms?

Admittedly, I haven't done my due research. But these things and many others lead me to believe there is something valuable and GOOD about magic.
