Other tanker types are KC-46A and C30J, and others, there are a lot of them up all the time and we never see what they are refueling. Looks interesting but has been that way for weeks.
Oh, I see. So when the op said there are no other planes visible, he was suggesting that there were actually a number of planes and the refuelers were for them. I get it now. Thanks for elucidating.
Sorry, that is basically it. There are a large number of 'Gas Stations' flying around ready to refuel fighters/Helos/whatever but those aircraft can turn off their transponders and we cannot see them, only the MIL can.
There are a lot of them up in the air and there is a reason for it, we just do not know why. If you click on the plane icon you can see their travel history,
Thanks. Sorry to be a pest, the plane stuff is new to me and I find it fascinating. But how does one know which ones are the refuelers? And I just now saw a bunch of grayed out plans, the details saying, 'on ground.' Maybe the refuelers have landed. If not, what might those grayed out planes be? Thanks if you answer.
Last week there were 100+ Mil planes visible in the early evening till about 12pm EST. Now there are 10-20 and mostly tankers the last 3 nights along with C130's, C17s, and other heavy machinery landing at Andew's AFB like clockwork throughout the day.
You never see Fighters on the trackers, only fuel ships (unless the fighters are trainers). This is probably on the higher end of the fuel ships and indicate a lot o ffighters around them.

And by that I mean I've only been a planefag for 2 weeks
Okay, but for those of us who don't know, can you explain the significance?
Military aircraft can shut off their transponders so they’re “invisible”. When this happens, it’s for a reason.

Night practice for a night mission, possibly. Personally, I would go for about 3AM on Sunday morning or Monday morning.

Forgot to add, they are K35R's.
