Sitting here watching the History Channel rerun of the Grant miniseries, final episode. As a trained historian, watching HC is usually painful because of the trash they produce. But this series was quite decent. Grant won the war, and then won the peace to save the nation. A military man was required to be POTUS, desperately needed to replace Johnson, who bluntly speaking, was asshoe. Seemingly lots of possible connections to the present, and even some Q posts. Remember questions about KKK, party that created it (Democrats), issues with habeas corpus, Martial law etc. All of this other stuff regarding the CMA. Taken from https://calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/oct/17 "In April 1871, President Grant signed the Ku Klux Klan Act, which made it a federal crime to deprive American citizens of their civil rights through racial terrorism. On October 12, 1871, President Grant warned nine South Carolina counties with prevalent KKK activity that martial law would be declared if the Klan did not disperse. The warning was ignored. On October 17, 1871, President Grant declared martial law and suspended the writ of habeas corpus in the same nine counties. Once he did so, federal forces were allowed to arrest and imprison KKK members and instigators of racial terrorism without bringing them before a judge or into court." Can't remember the drop number, but one talked about the President that saved the Republic. I assumed reference was to Lincoln. Perhaps it was actually referring to Grant?? Thoughts?

Edit: looked back to find it, Drop 22:

"What former President used the military to save the republic and what occurred exactly?"

I think the correct answer is Grant. He declared martial law and took down the KKK/insurrectionists
