Ronald Reagan made Goelitz Candy Company famous after winning the Presidency. You might recognize the name Jellybelly, and that's what the company renamed itself after Reagan's love of the candy catapulted it to fame.

Nutrasweet was only in chewing gum and soft drinks when it became legal to use in foods in 1984 (and, yes, Rumsfeld was behind that), but it wasn't until halfway through Reagan's second term that sugar free jelly beans were a thing.

I do remember people claiming the sugar free jelly beans caused his Alzheimer's or at least made it worse. There was a noticeable decline.
