Section 1. Revocation. Executive Order 13770 of January 28, 2017, “Ethics Commitments by Executive Branch Appointees,” is hereby revoked, effective at noon January 20, 2021. Employees and former employees subject to the commitments in Executive Order 13770 will not be subject to those commitments after noon January 20, 2021.
Hmm, and that is a ruling that Clarence Thomas strongly disagreed with if I remember correctly. SCOTUS protecting DACA EOs from revocation, is judicial activism at it's finest. Completely unconstitutional and made up.
I will not for a period of 2 years from the date of my appointment participate in any particular matter involving specific parties that is directly and substantially related to my former employer or former clients, including regulations and contracts.
^This is one portion that has now been revoked.
Seems important
His family are already worth at least $100 million each. Staffers maybe, yes. But then again, not all lobbying is unethical. Some of it is necessary to get anything done through Congress.
If, upon my departure from the Government, I am covered by the post-employment restrictions on communicating with employees of my former executive agency set forth in section 207(c) of title 18, United States Code, I agree that I will abide by those restrictions. - (They will continue to fight by exchanging information with their former associates that are still in place.)
I will not, at any time after the termination of my employment in the United States Government, engage in any activity on behalf of any foreign government or foreign political party which, were it undertaken on January 20, 2017, would require me to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1938, as amended. - (They may have recruited some of our new frens in Middle east to help fight against Xiden)
Just my speculation. Makes me feel like Biden will be sworn in though honestly, otherwise I see no reason for it to be revoked. Or maybe he is just covering bases?
Taking a government job with Trump meant signing a contract to not do lobbying for 5 years after term, or accepting lobbyist money basically.
I'm unsure why he is releasing them from this
Why even set the time and date on the EO? Why not just say "effective immediately"? What's the point of making people wait 12 hours for an EO to go into effect?
Came out at midnight, inauguration is noon. His staff wouldn’t be able to work for him or in a similar role bc they’d be breaching contract? I’m half asleep but that’s how I’m reading it.
Let me explain something about this order : It superseded Executive Order 13490, put in place by OBAMA.
So Trump put in his own order, to supersede Obama's. Then he revoked his own EO.
It is a legal and clever way of undoing EO's. That is what this order is about.
Don't read into the order too much, as it was merely a carry over of Obama's, which is now revoked in whole and not part.

The original EO
which superseded Obama's 2009 EO.
This was a clever move to revoke Obama's EO.
So you edit it, then delete it? I guess that makes it look like yours without it being yours lol.
Yeah, basically. He carried over the order. Made it his own. Then revoked it. It's legal to revoke your own EO's.
It's also legal to revoke previous EOs. EOs only last for as long as they are not revoked by an active President.
Except in certain cases. It's in the clauses. EO's are easy to be undone, unless they aren't.
Trump could not revoke EOs related to DACA for example - SCOTUS ruled.

A cynical person would say it's to allow his family and staffers to take lucrative new jobs as lobbyists....

It don't feel great but all we can do is sit on the edge of our seats.
ELI5 on 13770?

I can’t begin to fathom the strategy here but the obvious answer would be to use Obama’s own EO against Dems.
he leaving?
