What you describe, technically is called PathFinder IA, it may have definitely something to do here, but in the middle there's much more going on, a PathFinder as you say, is able to reach from point A to point B adapting the path taken based on X factors, but there are an infinite (literally) number of additional variables you should be able to handle / include and take in consideration for each step, we had many interesting talk about, try to have a look on the site, here is the last reflection i did some days ago about IA & chess mainly, hope it can interest you

it's not about predicting, but about having a massive operation, and markers within each contingent of the operation
so you have plans a, b, c, d, etc, each from beginning to end, and you have certain markers to let your group know where you are in the plan: did it change to plan b bc of something? did it now move to plan c? if so how far along plan c? what markers indicate plan c? are they back on b bc something happened? what markers indicate their moving back to plan b and how far are they along?
it's not some kind of fortune cookie that tells you if you're gonna have a bad day or good day

IMO the point is we ALL have ideas and stuff we want to share but after a while, long comments just get tiring to the eyes since there are SOOO many of us here :-)
