"This is my camera and I'm not even recording. This is in real time."
What?
I assume that he meant that the phone was able to identify items in real time, rather than having to record information to sift through. Basically just “this is live.”
ahhh.. Okay. So basically, hes saying "This is what my phone does, even when its not recording"
Yeah, that's what it seems like he means. Not very well worded, admittedly.
While I am recording this with my phone I tell you I am not even recording!
I held it up to my wife and she came up as...
PRICELESS$
got a kiss for that one thanks!
Ohh, your very lucky, and so is she.
That's why i highly recommend "Camera Block" for android, its free!
soooo, why do you think a free "camera block" app doesn't do this as well?
The only way to stop this would be to remove the hardware itself. You could disable it in the advanced menus, but Android/Google itself still has root access. It would protect you from apps, but not from Google.

The only way to do this… There’s more than one way, all you have to do is put a sticker over your camera. I put white out over mine! At least a forward facing one!
Thank you for that info
Doesn't work for android 11 :(
Wow. That’s...both cool and scary.
This is misleading. He's using an app with AI image recognition that is deliberately using his camera to do this. This isn't a hidden feature on a phone to show this, "mode" off.
That's not to say that Google, Apple, and app developers aren't trying to do the same thing, or aren't capable of doing the same thing. However, it is misleading to say that every phone is doing this at all times.
For someone who has to have a smartphone, the best solution at this time is to use Linux on it, or an open source version of Android without Google services (AKA custom ROMs), remaining completely open source.
That's something that has been well known for a while around 2019ish I was talking to a co-worker about banks and over drafts she mentioned Chime. I never googled it or looked it up but later that day when I took my break I was browsing FB and I got a ton of adds for Chime. I ended up telling her and we had a laugh over it, come 2020 I started to become more and more aware of how much these things listen and record you.
I go to a zoom book club and a zoom Bible study, Abouna is always saying I need a webcam so I can interact with the class more. I told him I am okay.
I hear stories like this for years.
Yeah stuff I've talked about (never searched for or looked at) has suddenly shown up as ads on my phone's apps.
yeah ive played around with some of the real time camera recognition software - shit can be SCARY accurate
a.k.a augmented reality
How did you access this on your phone?
That video is an advertisement for that feature. It’s viral marketing. The way he speaks throughout and signs off the video is the same as a quick ad before a youtube video. He’s getting in his quick :30 second ad spot.
