Is there an aircraft warning beacon on the top? Here in the UK anything over a certain height has to have a red beacon to alert aircraft of the structure.
Private planes aren't allowed anywhere near DC. Before you'd get that far, you'd have to explain what you are doing to a couple people before being blown to pieces if you don't listen.
That's not exactly true. There are quite a few little airports within the restriction area. You have to file and follow your flight plan to a 'T' Here are the rules for 60nm around DC. Then go look around the area on https://skyvector.com/

Yes, the Washington Monument has flashing red warning beacons on the 4 sides at the top. Anon below stated that private planes are not allowed anywhere near DC. This isn't entirely accurate. There is a an air defense identification zone around the WH - 20 miles. Private aircraft can pas through it with proper clearance and altitude. Small craft are generally not allowed anywhere inside the ADIZ. MIL and LE aircraft regularly fly all over DC.
I lived a few miles from the Pentagon when something hit it. No security camera footage of a plane. A few people claimed to have seen a plane, but considering it flew over thousands of people and no credible witnesses. I was a staunch "party narrative" guy for a long time. I had friends seriously injured in the attack. But now, years later, knowing what we know, I'm pretty confident that it was a missile which hit and not a commercial airliner.
DCA is less than two miles from the Pentagon, and they’re both on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. If you look on a map, you can see how close they are.

Marine1 flies in and out regularly doesn't it?
I think they're referring to non-military. Private planes aren't military.
true, but they are still apt to collide with dark objects at night :)
There is but I don't even see it lit up

Same for news choppers with clearance, you can see those regularly above DC depending on what may be going down.
Yep - Fed LE, medical, news, MPD.
If that's true then how did a commercial jet hit the Pentagon in 2001? I'm surprised I never thought of this before.

That makes sense.

Correct, P-56 is the prohibited airspace over the white house and from the lincoln to the capital. GA aircraft are not allowed to fly into DCA however
Signature is the GA FBO @ DCA: https://www.signatureflight.com/locations/dca/
You can see them on in the pic. The four lights at the top are the aircraft warning and they are on.
I also read only half the monument light went out, the other half was lit.
Yes it does. The red beacon light however did not go out.
