Well im not saying there is an actual office somewhere or it has a long history...but Trump and the Trump team embraced the office of President elect and they weren't trolling...future presidents of all parties will continue to use it because while created from nothing is actually smart from a influence standpoint...it creates the sense that this person who is not yet sworn in already has power already has influence and power over policy. Sort of a looming cloud over the remaining time of the current admin
