I lived in Atlanta from 90 to 05 and loved it. Never heard about or noticed the corruption. (Well there were a lot of strip clubs.). So much awakening this year that I feel slightly disoriented most days. I’ve never considered myself naive. I knew wrestling was fake. ☺️ I knew that a state lottery “for the schools” really meant that you sent that money to the schools while diverting the money that used to go to them. But wow what a year!
I live near the Gwinnett/Dekalb county line. I can drive a few miles to Dekalb and the neighborhood streets are full of potholes. They are horrible. Here in Gwinnett every 10-15 years they come through and do a nice job resurfacing. Its so bad my nephew visited like 5 years ago from out of state and he even asked me why it was like that... bad in one place but fine a mile away.
Its not just about lack of money. In Dekalb they hire the company owned by the family friend or relative of the county commissioner. They pay top dollar but get shit service so they can make fat profits etc etc. Typical corruption coming and going. In Gwinnett some of the same stuff happens but the company might get paid top dollar and they do a good job. So yeah they make profits but at least the roads are fixed properly. Or at least that's my theory. Results matter even if there is a little bit of corruption in Gwinnett.
When I say Atlanta I mean the whole metro area. Down town... Fulton county? LOL! That was lost long long ago.
It's not just Atlanta, it's all major cities. The true America spirit of freedom thrives in small cities but the big cities do not represent American freedom. It is a real complete fucking shame though because many from big cities don't know shit about nature, wildlife, this beautiful planet we're on. Many of them only know their big ugly nasty concrete jungles with people living on top of each other in apartments like rats in cages. Millions of Americans just want to live life in peace and enjoy it but big cities just want to destroy everything.
I'm in a big city in FL but when I moved here, I never planned on it being long term but just a few years at most. I guess you could say a stepping stone in my path to a new chapter in life. Many things in life require patience because many things never happen over night but wow, this these big cities everyone is always in a hurry as if they always have to be on the move, on the go. Those people never stop to just soak it all up, how great life can be. Hell, even those in a big cities have city parks, county parks, state parks, national parks which all are places with some form of nature to enjoy.
Years ago, my dad used to get up about 6am and sit out front, in front of his house smoking cigarettes and feeding bread to the many squirrels in the front yard, a perk of having lived in the county. That might sound boring to some and pointless to some but although I don't do that, I do enjoy nature and everyone should put their supposedly busy life on hold long enough to just soak it all in. Also remember that people in foreign countries typically will have it far worse than us in life.
Big cities are like a cancer and honestly there should be a way to restrict how many people can live in a city and county to prevent it from being so overly populated. Much of America is not populated, much of the population is condensed into this big city concrete jungles.
