We Christians have been waiting for the 2nd coming / rapture etc as an imminent thing since Israel became a nation.
That event was considered a sign of the end times. Ever since then every bad thing that has happened in the world has been a sign of end times.
When you believe you're going to be yanked out of here and plopped in heaven for eternity, what do you do? You stick your fingers in your ears, close your eyes and just wait. You do NOTHING.
Eagerly awaiting a near coming rapture, along with the 501c3 muzzle has completely neutered the church. The church is impotent, ineffective and basically useless.
You can have whatever eschatology you want, but if you choose to accept evil in the world because "it's just a sign of the times, Jesus is coming any day now" then you are a stupid sheep destined for the slaughter.
If this was a different board I would point out some evidence for just how Israel became a nation and how the imminent rapture doctrine was introduced into the Christian church, but you can look that up for yourself.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

Rapturos, found in the Latin Vulgate translation of Scripture. It wasn't "introduced" as some sort of heresy, it is in the Bible plain as day.
