lol good for him, though that does imply he was still watching BBC and just not paying? They dont take you to court if you're genuinely not watching the services and you've told them?

You have to pay the license fee simply for owning a TV or device capable of receiving BBC.

You don't have to watch BBC on that TV but BBC gets all the license fee money, other channels don't get any.
