MBox files are used by Apple Mail, Thunderbird, and other email clients. Import or restore from the MBox.

I tried using the Thunderbird client. It requires a name/UN/PW... prior to importing the mbox file.

Any way around that?

Make a backup copy of your MBox file before doing anything and use the copy for experimenting. I’m not sure if your file is encrypted or if it’s asking for the account information (email username/password). This procedure may or may no longer apply to current versions of Thunderbird but, if so, if may (or may not) allow you to see the files.

The MBox file? Certainly. It can be uploaded to any file sharing service; Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, as a torrent, wherever the possessor of the file chooses.
