No matter what time or date that it is there is always some activity even when it is minimal, but currently the closest spot with a military transponder switched on is Brazil/Europe and a US Herkie over Okinawa...........

Nah, this is normal. I've been watching this from Down Under where night is day and day is night.
It's only just about day break on the US East Coast right now. AF don't like to fly at night for lack of light, noise restrictions and sleep. They also try not to fly without transponders if they can help it to avoid collisions, but if they want to fly incognito they just will and we'll never be able to confirm it. What would be unusual at night AM is to see any air traffic at all, especially if in numbers of a dozen or more.
Here's a handy website for you to determine what time it is in the US. The time to watch is usually well after 7am ET and before 1am ET.
