This city should be the greatest in the world. I miss what it used to be (thinking around 2000 when Rudy was mayor and before 9/11). I was just a kid then... but the city had this magic to it that you can still kinda experience when watching archive footage on YouTube.
Now it’s filled with SJWs with blue hair and homeless all over the streets. Small businesses are destroyed due to a fake pandemic and BLM riots. DeBlasio has done everything in his power to destroy New York.
It’s the same with other cities. Chicago has history and culture. As Americans, we should be proud of the innovation in SF and the creativity in LA. I miss my liberal friends. Back in the 1990s, I remember being able to joke around about our superficial differences without being “canceled.” I even remember in the Spider-Man movie when Spider-Man makes fun of the other wrestler for wearing an outfit that his “boyfriend made for him.” There was no huge outrage.
I just miss those days. Not saying they were perfect but at least it wasn’t a life where we are all forced to walk on eggshells.
I went to NYC for the first time in 96 and was fortunate enough to go to the top of one of the WTC towers. I told myself I wanted to live there someday, so it's kind of sad seeing what's happened. I still have faith they'll see much better days ahead.
The very first time I went to NYC, we drove to NJ and then took a metro to the city. We happened to get out at the WTC station and the first thing I saw as I exited were the majestic towers. It was the best sight in the world
Do you remember the machine you'd put a quarter into, twist the knob, and it flattened the quarter? lol. I was there as a kid around 96 too.
Yoooo!! I think my dad must have one of the penny versions stowed away somewhere. Memories.
Yeah maybe it was a penny, I am never sure if it was a quarter or a penny, lol. Imagine we were there on the same day. I remember walking up the window really slowly, like afraid to stand near the edge and just look outside. It was my only time ever being there.
Me too! I'm afraid of heights, but I forced myself near to the window just to look down at the cars that looked like toys. The elevators with the seemingly millions of buttons was pretty crazy to see as well, lol.
Crazy to find someone with such a replica of a memory from nearly the same time 25 years ago. Ah, the good old days. And Yankees won the world series that year, good times !
When I was listening to the Nixon tapes I felt a similar longing for the past as you. A time where certain things were just common sense that the communists have confused us about. Homosexuality should not be celebrated- it is a sin. Women are generally happier being feminine and men are generally happy being masculine. San Francisco IS faggy, and women who curse are less attractive. I agree with you Nixy.
Social media has been hijacked to polarize the civilian population. That isn't surprising.
this^ exactly this. pretty soon history online will be rewritten and books will be reprinted and old ones possibly destroyed or disposed of.
I used to drive up to NYC at least once a month and I was in NYC 2 days before 9/11, and for me it was the best. Fortunately I havent been there recently, so I dont see all the blue haired SJWs but I can imagine it from seeing how San Francisco went that way.
I went there in June 2001. I got t-shirts of the World Trade Center. I had no clue what they were and their importance. I found out on 9/11
Great, great, wonderful, spot-on post.
