I think its far more likely they are staging things so China knows they are ready for the fight. Meaning when the US military makes its move here in the USA China will be helpless to react in any way because if they do Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and USA will hit them from the sea while at the same time India and Burma etc will hit them from land. Wouldn't surprise me at all is Russia jumped in as well.
In other words China can't afford to lash out or they might get dog piled on. All they can do is just sit there and take it while their entire plan gets dismantled and set back by decades.
