It's also souls and not soles.
Grammar copping the internet is one of the dumbest ideas ever. Phones put wrong spellings in place, and people are in a hurry.
Sometimes English is either a second language, or maybe they just don't know the spelling, and politely pointing out such a misspelling as he did is not so "dumb."
Lots of people dictate their messages - 'no' would definitely come up before 'know' in the phone dictionary - and soles/souls would probably be 50/50.
Yep! I have had a stroke. Before my stroke, I was an excellent speller. After my stroke, I am a horrible speller. I always dictate my messages. Like this one. Shame to anyone who tries to shame someone for a misspelling, or muhgrammer!
Yes, another possibility.
Spelling, grammar and syntax are ideas. Is it your position that ideas don't matter?
That's what we're fighting against - the thesis that clarity of thought does not matter. That's the left: inversion of meanings and confusion of our thought processes. It's newspeak and it's necessary on their path to taking over the world.
Clean it up. Better to make one good, clear post than two confused posts.
Wrong. Those are means of conveying ideas; not the ideas themselves. If the basic idea itself were "Call am anbulence, I'm am having hart attak", presumably you would still understand and call the ambulance for the guy, rather than pedantically letting him die over his spelling, run-on sentence, no period, and poor grammar.
As a former editor and proofreader, it's my position (along with 99% of Internet users, from what I can tell :) that the web isn't an essay contest. So grammar copping comes off lame, no matter how lofty the intent.
Consider also that some people are using talk to type. If they say soul, the phone might put sole, or vice versa. Relying on spell check and grammar check is another great way to create copy full of errors in spelling and grammar.
It's no dent in my linguistic integrity to admit that spelling, grammar and syntax just don't matter that much any more in forums like this and in casual email.
Yeah, the idiot isn’t the one who makes the error, it’s the one who complains. They have no self awareness. They’re probably dry young.
The mask police is the new grammar police.
Look, it's an autistic trait not being able to cope with misspellings and grammatical abuse. Neurotypicals wouldn't get it.
Ha ha ha, "neurotypicals"
I'm a heteronormative congruently gendered neurotypical colorectoregular, m'self
British spelling, they like the Dover fillet of sole....?
