I once lived in a trailer, so "trailer trash" is just stereotyping. It's an affordable stepping stone toward owning a nice home for those just starting out. You buy a used trailer for a few thousand dollars. After it's paid for, buy a piece of property and move the trailer to it, but put it near one side of the lot. After you pay for the property, start building a house in phases, paying for each phase before you start on the next. In 15 or 20 years, you'll own a really nice home without a mortgage. You'll be way ahead of those people who struggled to buy a nice home as soon as they left their parents.
