You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock I will build my church.
"Peter" translates to "rock"
He renamed Simon to Rock and said he was the foundation of the Church. He even gave him the keys to the kingdom, and thus the authority to bind and loose the sins of those among him.
It is pretty cut and dry, along all possible translations.
Wild how Peter (Rock) peradventures off to numerous places preaching the word of Christ, like a ... of some sort. What does it mean? Why didn't he just erect a ... and preach to the local people? Why not?
Dude, you really need to look up your words. In the original Greek, Jesus tells Peter he is "PETROS." Petros is a small wobbly stone. He then says upon this "PETRA" I will build my church. Petra is a large substantial stone, such as a mountain - look at the city of Petra, carved out of stone.
Jesus then proceeds to describe the "PETRA" his church is founded upon - NOT "PETROS."
He basically repeats his words to the multitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, which he repeated throughout his ministry.
Summed up, it is if you want forgiveness of sin, you must forgive. "Those things you hold on Earth are held in Heaven." "As you measure out, it shall be measured back to you. Etc.
The best advice I can give to anyone concerning Scripture is: READ WHAT IT SAYS.

Was that in Rome?
Or referring to something/someone else?
I think you should check out Michael S. Heiser's breakdown of this question. I think the catholic interpretation is distorted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3BrVkmKELo
