It's idealism for sure.

Yes, if a dude said "hey I'm going to shoot up a school", maybe that would be cause for concern.

But unless people are stupid, we all know red flag laws are just an "in" to disarming normal, good people and enforcing online and private speech that the powers that be deem offensive, which is an ever-moving goalpost.
