I feel bad for being so ignorant to what’s going on across the pond. When did it get so bad? Is this all Covid related or was the writing on the wall before the pandemic?
Last March I went on a cruise with my mom. We met a solo Brit traveler who resided in London and worked for British Air. We became friendly and invited him to join us for dinner one evening. To hear him tell it life was great. At one point he asked us what we thought of our our president and when we proudly told him we were Trumpers the meal came to an abrupt end and he didn’t speak to us again the entire trip. I remember wondering if his sentiment about Trump was reflective of mainstream Brits. Wonder what he thinks now... praying for you.
Yeah the wiring has been on the wall for a while before covid mate. A creeping authoritarianism. The Jimmy Savile and grooming gangs I mentioned were years ago.
The chap you met, well he probably would think it was all rosy seeing as his view is very much the establishment view and it is likely his ‘morals’ that are being enforced.
Sad to say but most people over here are anti Trump in the most irrational way possible. I can point out all Trump done to halt human trafficking, and particularly child trafficking for instance, but wilful ignorance and OMB/TDS is largely the order of the day here. Not many people I know seem capable of putting 2 and 2 together regarding the whole COVID / Reset thing either. There just announced a potential 10 year prison sentence for not complying with travel restrictions rules here. People will rationalise it as being for their own health and safety. Complete ostrich behaviour. It feels like a lost cause largely.
