Like all protests in SE Asia, the protesters are getting paid to be there. While there are obviously some people who genuinely want to protest and are going freely and for their own reasons, many of them are being financially compensated. That is just reality in this part of the world. Those numbers would not exist for any other reason.
Someone is dropping a lot of cash to give the appearance the coup is strongly opposed. I have lived through several coups in SE Asia. I know how the game is played here. My best guess is they are all getting around $15/day plus free food.
What the number of protesters means is that the optics of this are very important to someone who wants the corrupt NLD government returned to power. 1 guess as to who wants the human trafficking and drug trade (controlled by the NLD) to be resumed, and is willing to spend money to make it happen. (cough Soros cough)
You guys don't know me as anything other that a random guy on the internet, but you really should listen anyway. If you think those people are organic, ordinary protesters as you would have in the USA then you need to educate yourselves. That is not the way the game is played in this part of the world.
Don't believe it.
