The linked article is a must read, because it:
a) relates directly to that gratuitously-introduced internal tiff that was started around here a few days ago, and
b) because it eloquently lays out one of the foundational tenets of true justice, and also
c) it's a cancel-culture current event that everyone should be prepared to intelligently discuss.
I post this as a supporter of the mods' necessary task of overseeing this place, and jettisoning destructive, disruptive, disingenuous, or just off-topic content. That's not censorship, people - that's simply... moderation. Without it, the shills and the idiots will win. That's simply fact. So mods, I genuinely appreciate what you do, all you do, and I am sorry you've taken so many arrows over your good faith, well-intentioned, and largely successful efforts to keep this place as honest, decent, free-spirited, and productive as it's been over the last couple of weeks. It's been a huge improvement. Thank you.
But I really think you have to read this article, and realize that there is no shame in admitting that a blanket word ban, regardless of your good intentions, was not only unjust... but also kinda retarded, ill-considered, and unnecessarily destructive. We all make mistakes. I make a shtload of em.
Some people here are obviously still bent out of shape about this. And, admittedly, so am I. But I hope you'll please just acknowledge that message was ill-considered (and if you've already done this, I dunno, maybe do it* again*??♂️?), retract that blanket rule, keep booting out the ranting racists, and keep booting trolls and shills, keep moderating, and we'll move on stronger than ever.
And as for the "muh free speech" nutjobs? They really need to find somewhere else to play their game of suicide.
Well, the first problem is that you are too stupid to be able to tell the difference between the NY Post and the NY Times...
Off to a pretty bad start right there...
Ok, thank you for so able pointing out just how many retards orbit this place. If you had actually BOTHERED TO READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE, MORON, you would have learned that it is now published in the NY Post because IT WAS KILLED BY THE NEW YORK TIMES.
I love this place, but there ARE waaaay to many of you loudmouth low-IQ types around, and that's a damn shame.
For us.
Because I've now got to presume you just don't have any capacity for shame. Among other things.
Yes. Hard to believe... and yet, at the same time, waaaaay too easy to believe, if you've been around here (or really, any web community, I guess... not trying to diss this place I love!)
So yes, his was a super low-effort comment, which appropriately produced a super high-irony result. ?
And I knew it was going to be embarrassing enough that he'd delete it... which is why I quoted it. Because I may be a little bit petty on occasion. ?
Everyone who had a chance to become a MOD and neglected to even apply, please raise your hand....
Every potential MOD who did not sign up, who still is complaining about the amazing MODS with whom we are currently blessed, please show us the dirty sock you stuffed in 'it' to calm your bleating...
It is amazing to me people complain about censorship but them immediately complain about others and want to silence anyone ekse who doesnt tow a "company line"
We can't always say whatever we want without consequences. Free speech means speech cannot be banned by the government and you cannot be criminally prosecuted for what you say. That's it. It doesn't mean there aren't consequences for certain language in other situations.
You can't cuss out your boss or use that word in school or at work. Why? Free speech is supposed to exist everywhere, right? And it does. While your boss can't have you arrested for doing that, he can fire you. And a school can suspend you or expel you for using that sort of language.
It's the same here. We have rules. If you break the rules, you won't get arrested for it, but the mods have every right to remove the post/ban a person for breaking the rules of this site.
And as long as the rules are applied equally to everyone, there is no problem with that. If you don't like the rules here, you may go to another forum that has different rules. I come here instead of the other sites because I like the rules, and I do not want to read that garbage.
If you'll read what I posted as you were so kindly telling me that I needed to leave if I thought a blanket word ban, regardless of intent, was, you know, a bad idea... you'll likely find that I largely agree with you.
The point here, which evidently drove you mad for some reason, is that a "blanket word ban" was just a really ill-considered rule based on willful blindness to intent. And if we can't even discuss and reconsider rules here... yo, now that's a real problem.
Also, just speaking practically, leaving picayune considerations of prudence and justice aside, I have been quite supportive of and grateful for the mods and their efforts here. Not that you or your feisty little opinion matters much at all, but if the mods collective felt that my concern here, on this one issue, is unreasonable or incorrect, it is worth noting that there are many, many others on here who are even far more cheesed off about this than I.
I'm just trying to head off gratuitous division over a well-intentioned mistake.
Lib cancer bunny. ??????
Live free or die, the choice is yours, trailer trash, hillbilly redneck, inbred, cracker.
Nigerian is the root word. Australian is an Aussie, sticks and stones...get it and get over the word, and the overlords.

Cheers, my online freedom frens!
This is way to awake and based to be in the NYT.
This is a good article.
It sure was.
It articulated everything I felt was unfortunate about that "policy".
I sure hope the mods saw it, or at least the one mod.
As it appear to have been written for him, and at the almost-perfect time.

Wow. Too lazy to even read the TITLE before name calling?

Thank you. Dismissed.
So because I dont have time to be a mod on this site for free, I should not care how it runs? Solid logic right there.
It is amazing to me people complain about censorship but them immediately complain about others and want to silence anyone ekse who doesnt tow a "company line"
LET IT GO!
If you don't like the rules here, you may leave.

Ponder that, killer.
