His lawyers continuously side stepped any election fraud landmines, yesterday. The Dems were baiting them to go into it, but they avoided it. I don't think they had any intention of talking about the election fraud in this particular forum. From what I saw from his lawyers, it seems like they wanted this over and done with as soon as possible. Trump praised them, which means that's what HE ultimately wanted.
I think Plan A was to get him acquitted swiftly... why his lawyers only took 2.5 hours instead of the full 16.
Dems voted for witnesses. Trump called their bluff by showing a list of 301+ witnesses including Nancy Pelosi. This would have made the trial last for months. It would have hurt the Dems and exposed all sorts of stuff.
So the Dems backtracked and went went Trump's original and preferred plan. This is classic Trump. He put them in a corner where they had 2 choices. Either way they would lose and he would win. They got to choose which way they wanted to lose, and Trump made sure to set it up to make them choose which way HE wanted it to go.
It's still kindof wild to me that they voted for witnesses and then clumsily scratched that (not even sure technically how) as soon as Trump laid out the 300+ witnesses threat. They were scared.
100%, bunny. This, combined with POTUS's victory statement, alluding to good things coming in the next few months, gives me lots of hope! I can't wait!
Yup. You don't want to go into all the election fraud crap when you are coming from a defensive position. That would not have been good, and I ultimately believe Trump wanted this out of the way and done with as soon as possible. Everything his lawyers did lead me to believe this.
The Dems were too in control of that forum for it to have been any good. It would have just turned into a big circus. I still feel really good that we won this battle, made the Dems look ridiculous, and it didn't eat up a whole lot of time. Now POTUS can get back to doing whatever he is doing behind the scenes :)
I really like the optimism here. Let’s try to keep it going as we turn on the offense. Let’s also note that we have been here before - an attack vanquished and the path clear for us to go forward with our own action. And each time, within about three days, we are somehow on the defensive again in the midst of another surprise media attack.
Usually it is something the Democrats have known about and been plotting for months but our side never seems to know what it is going to be until they launch it. Then because of that confusion, we spend the first couple of weeks of each new scandal just trying to figure out what the real story is and how to respond.
Meanwhile Democrats who knew about it in advance already have the website designed and ready to launch. The T-Shirts and signs are all printed and ready to ship. Meanwhile our side is still like, “What? So there was... ok there was an ambassador and a phone call and ok no wait there was a noose now you say and Trump said - no no no that sounds wrong - no, Biden said that - ok start again, you say this Indian was just drumming and then - and then where does the lady with two front doors come in again?”
The Impeachment failed. Trump won. That means they need a narrative shift.
You make some really excellent points here. I am also tired of being on the defensive. I really hope we are getting closer to the offensive part of the show :)
I definitely see a narrative shift coming. FF? More Covid crap. Mutated US strain perhaps.
Sounds good so far.
