I live Northeast of Houston. We lost power at my house for 25 hours during the worst of it.
We made sure to have plenty of firewood and kept the fireplace hot.
We bought large amounts of bottled water days ahead of the freeze.
We shut off water at the street before the freeze started and then bled all the pipes in the house, covered up outdoor pipes.
We filled up bathtubs full of water for flushing toilets.
Got the kids involved too. They knew what to do without being told.
Everyone got through it OK. I realize that elderly and disabled people can't do for themselves, but for most people it seems to be lack of education. Maybe instead of teaching 59 genders in school and being ashamed of your own history, we should teach emergency preparedness instead?
I was thinking that ... I see people's point about how they should have been prepared but don't we sort of operate under the assumption here that we need to be prepared because others probably won't?
I have a family of five and I'm prepped for 60 days/20 people.
Why?
Because the rest of the world doesn't see shit like we do. They will be unprepared and when the cousins and uncles and neighbors show up, they'll need help.
This dude is pissed because people are looking to him for answers but him and his administration got elected because they said they had the answers. It's his job to ensure his citizens are provided with the utilities they pay for.
From what I understand it's a power transmission problem, not a natural disaster, that is responsible for most of the outages. YES. The weather is the cause but not because of physical damage. The weather just made the inadequacy of the power grid noticeable.
Mother nature gave it a Pen Test and it failed.
He doesn't get to say, "quit being lazy" and quit.
Fuck him, he's a pussy that should have never been in a position of authority.
