Me and my 366 Neanderthal variants were able to track my lineage online back to Thomas Cason 1619 Virginia! I’ve always found this interesting, you have a cool job.
Not really a job, as I only occasionally get paid. It's been several years since I had a large paying customer.
I am currently working on a book that may be finished in a year or two. It seems that people in my family screwed anything that moved. There are countless extramarital children and interracial children that are showing up in droves in my DNA matches. And half my cousins married cousins. I'm in my tree in four different places. My male line goes back to the 1500s in Germany.
It's great fun. I do some genealogies for free just to stay in practice.
BTW, Thomas Cason owned a lot of slaves. Just thought you'd like to know. And he lived just an hour's drive from me.
I may not be the very best genealogist, but I am one of the very fastest.
Really? Anywhere I can find that info? Absolutely fascinating. I wasn’t able to find Revolutionary war info but my great great? grandfather Owen elkins died in the civil war (south obviously)
23 and me said I’m related to Franklin, obviously not that branch of my tree. It would have to be through my grandmother Eleanor Garrison (b.1918 I think, just died last year at 102 in a nursing home from “COVID”) , they came from NY
I don't do it as an actual job. I have done it for money, but I prefer to do it for fun. I am retired from a regular job, so I can sit at my desk all day long and do research. Since so much is on the computer now, I don't have to travel to research like I did back in the 70s.
I have Asperger's, and genealogy is one of my "perseverations" or intense interests above all else. I have been doing this for almost 60 years, and it's just as much fun now as it was back in the 60s.
If you give me more specific info about an ancestor, I might be able to find something quickly. I did a quick search for Owen Elkins and found one who was born in NC, enlisted for the war in GA in 1863, and was married to a Cason. I might not be the very best in the world, but I am among the fastest.
Hey! That sounds amazing. First off, thank you. I find this information beyond interesting and I could talk about this forever.
Owen Elkins should show kin ending up in Georgia, Toombs county. My grandfather was Joseph Lee Elkins he died in 1983 in NJ. He was in WWII. His daughter (my mother 1957-2012) name was Jaye.
23andMe has been crazy for me. I found out both my sisters weren’t my dads and he had another daughter neither of us knew about. He was surprised to say the least.
Another good family mystery is that my father was adopted by his stepfather, was born (Robert Allen May) 5/13/44 (Mother Eleanor Garrison, died 2000 age 102) bio father was named Leonard May. I know ZERO about him and neither did my dad. I heard Leonard was British. My Dad was from Princeton/millstone/grovers Mills (same farm as featured in “was of the worlds” radio broadcast)
I find it fascinating that I have a paternal lineage that I know nothing about.
Curious if you can figure out my adopted last name.
If I was trained similarly and had the spectrum chops to do Mariana Trench level dives I’d do it all day :)
Thank you In advance. You’re making a stranger and his family very happy.
Have a fantastic weekend. Hope the weather is good where you’re at. I’m in SoCal so as far as weather, I can’t complain hahah

I’d love that job
