What about genetically modifying food that strips it of its nutritional value and is contributing to food intolerances and food allergies?
You can also genetically modify food to maximize for nutrition and health.
Right now we're at a point where the population exploded from nothing to almost 10 billion. You can't ensure the survival of so many without maximizing for yield first. Once we step over this hurdle and yield becomes a non-issue, we will invariably begin maximizing for nutrition and health. People do this by voting with their wallets, and if people can't afford organic food then they will happily take any food so that they can survive.
You can't sustain the planet on grass-fed beef, at least not until we make another few breakthroughs (which I am >80% certain that we will within our lifetimes).

When God gives you a knife it's up to you whether you want to use it as a tool or to cut yourself.

In my opinion, it's a risk/benefit analysis for everything. Robot vacuum cleaner... low risk. COVID vaccine that can change our genes and potentially cause sterility and who knows what else.... BIG risk with no discernable benefits since after the vaccine you can still get and pass on COVID.
