There's a series of books that I read where there are a class of "magic users" that are called "Tineyes"

These characters in this book series, ingest pure tin, and then they burn it inside of their bodies in order to enhance all of their senses. They get better, sharper and longer vision, enhanced hearing, heightened touch, smell and taste.

People who become "tineyes" are said to have "awakened" because they can now see the world for what it really is with their enhanced suite of senses.

I just find the use of that term outside of the book series very interesting.
