You will only see the greyed out aircraft if they are powered up, the info comes from transponders and the like so these aircraft aren't just parked up.
I've just looked and there does seem to be many more aircraft on the ground but powered up, more than normal. What it means tho I have no idea.
My guess is "its 12 am and nobody is flying right now and have parked their planes"
