Just received an emergency alert on my cell for my area (Southwest Missouri), TORNADO in the immediate area. Not a cloud for 100 miles, nothing on local broadcasts. An omen?

YES!! Same here... I have my window open teaching my girls and I paused and just listened...It didn't feel right. That isn't normal. I don't know that I have ever received a text for a "tornado" either. Plus, they test on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, right? Its the first Tuesday...

That is weird. I checked weather.com and there is rain and some storms south of you, but they're headed off to the east. The skies are clear for most of the continental U.S.
Same here, also in Missouri. It coincided with the regular monthly testing of the warning sirens but I've never gotten the written warning before.
It does to a degree. However, it’s not the first Monday and it’s not 9AM.
AND there have been at least 3(?) sent out so far. AND the monthly testing of the sirens (in our area at least) has never been accompanied by a phone alert.

Saint Louis-ish here. Clear skies, cold temperatures, not the first Monday, not 9AM.
Not that the latter two mean anything, but definitely atypical.
In Illinois - we do a test of the system on the first Tuesday of the month - could that be it?

You are clueless. They have been doing tornado drills here in MO the first Tuesday in March since I was a kid.
It’s to sync with KS tornado warning for whatever reason. I read an article about it.
I got this on my cell too Kansas City Metro area. Had the radio on in the car, but it came across as a test. Interesting. My phone said check media so I came straight here!!
